No Place to Fall and Don't Take it Too Bad are two of my favorites.
When I lived in Houston area it was a short trip to Galveston and the Old Quarter Acoustic Cafe that is owned by Wrecks Bell (Rex's Blues). Rex was a friend of Townes and played bass with him at times. Guy Clark, Townes VanZant, Rodney Crowell and Steve Earle were all part of a cool Texas music scene that makes me wish I was a bit older so I could have seen it happen. Robert Earl Keen and Lucinda Williams are two more great Texas singer songwriters I like to cover.
The Old Quarter in Galveston as well as Dan Electro's Guitar Bar and The Last Concert Cafe in Houston are great places to hear live music in a small dive atmosphere. I miss Texas for this and many other reasons.
And it's great to meet another fellow musician such as yourself. Hope we someday can get together, yack a bit, jam a little, share some stories, and knives!

Another songwriting genius, unknown to most. This one of his has been covered by many artists, probably the best known version was done by Merle Haggard.

Wayne you’ve mentioned several of my favorites. Living Texas I’ve had the pleasure of hearing them all and seeing some of them perform too. I guess I am a bit older, saw most of it develop starting back when Willie Nelson and Family were the house band at a place in Dallas in the early 1970s.btrwtr wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 1:30 amNo Place to Fall and Don't Take it Too Bad are two of my favorites.Stanwade wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 10:14 pmbtrwtr wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 8:51 pm Townes was a great talent and he wrote some awesome lyrics. Not his most popular (a little too long for radio) but here’s my favorite Robert Earl Keen song.

Re: Favorite Folk...
Thanks Ryan. Here’s another of my favorites. First saw him in the summer of 1969, in Red River, NM. Been a fan ever since. He started as a folkie, then Outlaw Country (he wrote the “Outlaw Country anthem” Up Against the Wall, Redneck Mother), then a rocker, blues, etc. but he’s always been a folk singer/songwriter at heart.

Re: Favorite Folk...
That was Kenny Vaughn, he was in her band at least for a while. She’s on my bucket list to see in person. I saw her once in Memphis several years ago. She was in the audience at a little restaurant that had a musician singing accompanied by her guitar and a pianist. The performer (can’t recall her name but she was good) invited Lucinda on stage and she sang Lake Charles and Crescent City. Lucinda was singing at another place later that same night but it was sold out.Ridgegrass wrote: ↑Wed Feb 03, 2021 2:23 pm MPeg: That looks like Cousin Kenny Vaughn from The Fabulous Superlatives on guitar. Willie, If someone is a veteran,(like myself), a hippie, a peacenik, or a hawk, you gotta stop and think about it when Phil Ochs sings, " Call It Peace Or Call It Reason, Call It Truth Or Call It Treason, But I Ain't Marchin' Anymore". Sure has stuck in my memory since "67-'68.
