Well yes, but there is no need for me to translate. The German box lid reads to 99% the same as the English box lid. I got lucky on this one.Jacknifeben wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 6:40 pm A couple of never used CATTARAUGUS razor hones. Anyone speak German?

Ralph, beauty IS in the eye of the beholder. Monetary value is not always the bottom line in collecting . Nice pattern on a maker that's not commonly found now.

Not the most expensive knife in my collection but how many Four line tang stamps have you seen on a single blade, wood handled Cattaraugus?

I am looking for some of these numbered button/tacks with price or blank bottom part used in the Cattaraugus displays. I am restoring an old Cattaraugus display and some of the buttons are missing. I would pay a premium price for them if you are interested in selling some let me know.

Re: Cattaraugus Cutlery Co. Little Valley N.Y. 1886-1963
Jimbo, You flatter me but I am NOT the Catt man. I have a hundred or so but I "ain't no expert on nuthin". I'm willing to share what I know.
Your knife is a swell center balloon whittler. It appears to have ebony or cocobolo handles. (Some ebony has lighter streaks like yours.) Your handles are either very faded and worn or could have been replaced ?? I can't tell it's length but I've seen evidence that Catt made that pattern from 3" to 3-5/8"
, and possible smaller.
The pic below shows a bone handled example. Your blades appear to be a spear main and some type of pen secondaries. My best "guess"is that it's a "97" pattern, 3-1/2" whittler. Maybe a 32976(ebony) or 32977(cocobolo).
As far as number stamping goes, I have unnumbered Catt knives. Why they aren't stamped is unknown to me.
Hope this helps. I'm just a "student" of 50 years myself. J.O'.

Ha! A man with 100 catts. Definitely knows more than me with like 2 or 3. My knife is 3 1/4” long and appears to have had a lot of pocket carry. You have helped my concern of no numbers on this knife and I appreciate your answer for sure! Thanks j.o.Ridgegrass wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 4:12 pm Jimbo, You flatter me but I am NOT the Catt man. Picked up an old workhorse on ebay recently. Has plenty of wear, but shouldn't hurt it if I put her in my pocket.
