Cattaraugus Cutlery Co. Little Valley N.Y. 1886-1963

The Cattaraugus Cutlery Company was started by John Champlin and his son Tint in 1882. It was first incorporated under the name J.B.F. Champlin and Son as a wholesale distribution company based in Little Valley, New York. The business proved to be a successful endeavor, and it soon branched into a knife production company named Cattaraugus.

Very knice hones !
:)

I suspect the german is a almost or very near direct translation of the english . . . . ::tu::

EDIT . . . Tom will be along shortly; he'll know .... ::dang::
I guess Tom hasn’t seen this yet, but since I speak a little German, I can say that you’re correct. The German shown is a translation of the English version shown previously.

Everyone go join the new group on Facebook if you have one! It's " All About Cattaraugus Cutlery Company"!! It's such a great American Company I hope we can get some intelligent people on there who have some knowledge of this old cutlery and also share some photos of what you have!
Older knives are like women, they are beautiful, pricey, and rarely do you find the good ones!

Thanks for the heads up I just joined. I just hope that the group does not get flooded with knives for companies that have absolutely nothing to do with Cattaraugus!!!

Maybe not! I want to learn as much as I can! I think they are fabulous and maybe somebody that's an expert can take over and share their expertise! I'm just trying to get the ball rolling, I love case but they are soo overrated!

This knife was owned and used by the last JBF Champlin to run the company! It came in the group of Catt's that were found by his Grandson!! I can keep it or sell it for the family!! Not sure what I'm going to do. Pricing it is the issue?

I am open to what others think?

Thanks Mike

I have a KING OF THE WOODS 12839 that some guy bought along time ago and wanted to put a compass in the front bone. Now the bone is missing. Can anyone find me another slab to match this one? The knife is almost mint, has some little marks from being in a box with some newer CASE celluloid knives. Don,t really need the compass but I have two of the larger size if anyone would like to try it.

Another great job by Glenn on this rare knife, thanks Glenn. This knife and fork combo was in the group of knives that I got from the Champin family. It had the yellow covers that are found on this type of knife from Cattaraugus. As you can see from the before picture they were gassing out. I wanted to have covers put on them but wanted some connection with Cattaraugus and not just any covers as replacements. Since I have the cocobolo wood handles that I found in the factory I figured they would be the best thing. Glenn put them on, and the knife came out great. Thanks for saving this one!!!
As you can see it was part of the Salesman's sample group.
