customizing a custom!

Post by glennbad »

I've owned this knife for awhile. It was an early piece from a custom maker. Nice knife, but I didn't carry it much. Sadly the handles, which I believe are Koa, looks to have dried out or shrunk, and failed and cracked at the pin. Since it wasn't much use in that state, I modded it with some of my dyed stag.

I like the knife even better now, and I think it will make it into my EDC rotation! Here's some before and after pics...

Looks like the woodgrain ran across the handle material rather than the preferred lengthwise. Could have led to the cracking? The new stag looks great.

Beautiful Glenn. You always have the best looking stag for your knives.

Super nice, as always Glenn! That broken knife is now a thing of beauty. I think that OC is correct. Having the grain of the original wood scales running crossways like that is just asking for trouble, IMHO. ::tu:: ::tu::

Beautiful work Glennbad, that's what I love to see, take a knife with cracks or issues and turn it around into a flawless, beautiful, one of a kind piece of function and form and a showstopper. Killer knife. Congrats. ::tu:: ::tu::
