Lansky1 Has Done It Again!

Post by QTCut5 »

His signature "Ratcliffe" is legendary, and now Lansky1 has created yet another customized masterpiece using just a few basic hand tools and a pile of sandpaper and transformed an otherwise Plain Jane, run-of-the-mill production knife into something totally unique, one-of-a-kind and way more interesting.

Check out the magical transformation of this 2016 Moore Maker Mini Trapper I asked him to cast his spell upon.

A relatively minor alteration, but a significant improvement IMHO...if nothing else, at least in aesthetic and interest value.
Needless to say, I'm tickled pink.

Thank You, John. Congratulations, you've done it again.

Cheers & Aloha,

As you should be. 50 years down the road, that's going to blow someone's mind. Very cool. I like it.

Very cool!
Now if all trappers had that blade instead of the spey, I'd be more apt to buy 'em.
Job well done!!
Take care and God bless,

Thanks ... but I just use a dremel tool, stationary disc sander, files, 220-1500 wet/dry sandpaper, buffing wheel and a Lansky diamond sharpening rig to do blade mods. Taking a knife apart is way beyond my skill set ... would like to learn that one day though

In case anyone was wondering...

There's absolutely no possibility of Lansky1 ever contracting corona virus since, apparently, I have him chained to a workbench in the basement constantly churning out knife mods for me (it's for your own safety, John!)

This Smooth Yellow Bone 2015 Moore Maker 5101LL Wharncliffe Trapper mod is his latest masterpiece and the newest addition to my Wharncliffe trophy case. I know I shouldn't be surprised at this point by anything that comes out of his shop; nevertheless, I have to keep pinching myself to be sure I'm not hallucinating every time I look at this sweet, sweet beauty.

This knife was orphaned stock left over from the shuttered Queen factory. The blade had never even been sharpened. I sent it to John and he finished it up nice and proper.

Dang it, you facilitated another knife purchase! I found a "from closed factory" version like yours, but is the two-blade configuration, the 5201LL. Not as pretty (staining on blades, but keep in mind, the knives set in an uncontrolled environment for what, two years?). I may end up having the Ratcliffe mod done to the spey. I don't castrate livestock with a knife (we use mechanical banders) and haven't skinned small game. But the spey skins an orange pretty good.

Great looking mod! Wharncliffe plus lock means blade that can cut anything.

Glad you like it Q !

Curious ... anybody have a guess as to what type of steel Queen may have used in these ? I'm used to Case Tru Sharp or CV that I can file to get the wharncliffe edge straight before sharpening ... file wouldn't touch this steel - it is much harder than Tru Sharp... thx ::tu::
