Thanks everybody for the kind words and to Floyd ... I suspected queen may have used something like D2 - steel is so much harder than Tru Sharp - thx for intel.

Moore Maker advertised them as being 1095. But, when I was sharpening mine on the Turnbox; I also sharpened a Klein Tools/Kutmaster Electrician that was also supposedly 1095, and the Moore Maker seemed to be much harder/tougher. Perhaps Queen used a different heat treat or metallurgy; which could result in extra hardness, toughness, and/or wear resistance.

And I am sure the heat treats and grinds on a $100 MSRP knife are far better than that on a $25-30 MSRP knife like the Klein.

Been awhile, but I managed to convince John to do a couple more mods for me and as usual the results are nothing short of spectacular.

Both started out with standard Case 07 clip blades...

This Smooth White Bone 6107 was modified into a 6107W. Clearly John has the Wharncliffe mod down to a science. He's done so many that I believe he could probably do this mod in his sleep (and for all I know maybe he did; however, even if that were the case, I think this is his best Wharn mod yet.)
PC180006.JPG

This Rough Black Synthetic 4107 was modified into a new design I call a "Coffin Spike" 4107CS" (I said I wanted it "pointy" and he made it about as pointy as it could possibly be.)

PC180015.JPG
PC180014.JPG

I love both of these unique mods and I appreciate John being such a good sport and being willing to turn my outlandish mod concepts into reality. He always rises to meet the challenge and has never disappointed me yet. His work is absolutely top notch, professional grade, IMO. ::nod::

Well, it's been awhile since I roped John into another one of my crazy projects and I was afraid he might be getting soft or possibly thought he was finally rid of me once and for all. No such luck!

I once had a GEC Stag Northfield Yankee Barlow #77 with a factory Wharncliffe blade. Bought it way back in 2014 when they were first released. Then, I ended up selling it never realizing how popular (and expensive) they would eventually become just a few years down the road. I tried and tried to find another one, but, alas, no one was selling...at any price (well, to be completely honest, there was one guy who offered to sell me his used one...for $1,000! I had to decline his "generous" offer.) So, I did the next best (and much more affordable) thing and bought a 2022 #77 Yankee Barlow and sent it to my reliable Wharncliffe mod-mechanic extraordinaire, Lansky1...

...and, you guessed it, he did it again!!! Made my wildest dreams come true. ::groove::

Thanks fellas for the kind words. It was a fun project, but I will say the old blood pressure spiked pretty hard when I put the cutoff wheel to a GEC 77  !! Really glad you're happy with it Q ! ::handshake::

I had a good chuckle when I found that John had returned the small cut-off piece with the knife. Considering the prices these knives are selling for, that tiny sliver is probably worth about $50

Well folks, Lansky1 has done it again...and again (twice). These two will likely be the last knives I ask John to transmogrify to suit my twisted tastes. He's not only been an extremely good sport about accommodating all my wild & wacky whimsies over the past few years, he's managed to execute every mod I've requested to absolute perfection. ::nod::
These two final projects are no exception; I couldn't be more pleased with how they both turned out. ::super_happy:: ::ds:: ::groove::

First (of the last) mod is the 2022 AAPK Club Knife GEC #81 Elderberry Jigged Bone that John converted from an ordinary Muskrat into this exotic beast we've dubbed the...

Shlambsfootrat (A hybrid sheepsfoot/lambsfoot secondary blade on a standard muskrat pattern frame. Not to be confused with a "Hawbaker" or "Improved" Muskrat!)
P1090009.JPG

BTW - Since I'm sure some of you who are familiar with my personal preferences and proclivities will no doubt be wondering...The only reason this one did not become one of John's legendary signature Ratcliffes is because the nail nick placement was too far forward to allow for a proper, graceful Wharncliffe top curve.
P1090015.JPG
P1090025.JPG

The second (and last of the last) mod is this Queen #41 Copperhead with Amber Carved Stag Bone that left the now-shuttered Queen factory looking like this with a standard clip blade:

AFTER:

P1140009.JPG

I seriously doubt that anyone would ever suspect this perfectly shaped Wharncliffe blade was once trapped inside a boring old clip blade. ::oh_my::
P1140010.JPG

BIG MAHALO to you John for making my collection truly one of a kind. We've had quite a ride and it has been a LOT of fun!!! :D 8) ::tu::

Can't decide if the Queen should be called a "Coppercliffe" or a "Wharnhead" ::undecided::

Any votes for either name (or perhaps a new name altogether)? ::hmm::

Well, if it's supposed to reflect the owner, you better call it a Wharnhead. That would be fitting wouldn't it? Definitely two beauties once Lansky got through with them. Congrats on two one of a kind knives. Sweeeeeeeet pair.
