Customized Western Bird & Trout #628

Post by orvet »

Recently I picked up a Delrin handle Western 628, one of their bird and trout patterns. The 3 inch blade was the size I used to carry when I did a lot of stream fishing for cutthroat trout. I think most of you will agree that Delrin is not nearly as pretty as stag, so I had to customize it a little bit with some real Sambar stag!
When I bought this knife it did not have a proper sheath with it, but I found one among the sheaths I had purchased for just such an occasion. I felt good about making this knife a little nicer and match it up with an original sheath.

Note the Western snap in the last picture, I thought that was pretty cool.

I hope you enjoy the pictures, there are a few more where the knife is listed in my store.

That sheath really matches the tones / colors of the stag, too....they really come together for a nice combo!!!

Thanks guys! I'm glad you like it, and I do appreciate your feedback. I also appreciate your honesty; because I know if there are any details that are wrong somebody here will find it and be honest enough to point it out to me in a constructive way. ::tu::

There are not many places that someone can show their work and receive honest feedback, both biased and unbiased feedback, (both are valuable). I appreciate the feedback of Western aficionados because they have a particular way of looking at a Western knife and they can sometimes be the most difficult to please. I also appreciate the feedback of people who have no affection for Western knives or may even have a bias against them; seeing their reaction provides equally valuable information from an entirely different point of view. ::nod::

I am very appreciative of all of you who take the time to look at the pictures and respond even if just to say "Nice knife." I especially appreciate our members who let me know those things they find appealing about a modification as well as the things they might be less fond of. It is very helpful to me as I try to improve with each new project I do.
If it was all about turning out a vast quantity of knives, or widgets, I could do that: but that would be a job, not a hobby! ::teary_eyes::
I am at the hobby stage in my life!

I really like that one Dale. The stag is not too much but fits the knife. Great job. ::tu::

It's hard to beat stag, especially on a fixed blade of that make and vintage. Looks really good.

Thanks guys.
I agree, stag goes very well with most old knives and sometimes a little bit of simple stag is just right. "Less is more" as they say.
