I just got back, from a Father's Day trek, to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. My father had been an electrician, prior to getting in to the radio and records world. We always had the fanciest ceiling fans and indoor / outdoor lighting, in our house. If it could be converted or upgraded, he did it. A few months back...I had him come down and help me put in some lighting and electrical plugs, under my recent RV cover. Additionally, he helped me convert it from a 30 Amp plug...to a 50 Amp plug. It's getting harder for him to do the labor. I had him be the brains of the project and I provided the "brawn". I'd never really known the story behind him being an elctrician; but, had the time to get a lot of the story. His mother had been a secretary, working for an electrical company. Long story short...he had his Journeyman's license at age 16 and his Master Electricians license by the time he was 18. No small accomplishment. He put himself through college, working part time as an electrician. While he made good money as an 18 year old...he's wasn't enthralled with working in the heat of Texas construction sites.
I dressed up this Camco TL-29, for him (with camel bone); however, left the screwdriver and "workings", to stay true to it's roots.
It brought a smile to his face.

What is the gold dremel style tool in this photo? I’m assuming you used it to do the shield inlay?

Jeff, it's a relatively cheap, dental lab drill. My version of a Foredom; although probably not as durable. It uses straight dental handpiece burs. The link here, is a slightly different version of the one you see. I have both...they are essentially the same. For me...working on the patio...it's very portable. How long it will last, is left to be seen.

Thanks for the info!
I would have never considered dental lab equipment but it makes perfect sense.

Beautiful knife Doc, but the beat thing was you putting a smile on your father's face. I'll bet he proudly shows that knife to anybody who will listen!

One of the last I did. First time doing file work. Think the scales were root beer jigged bone form Culpepper.

This one was fun, first try at a combination scale. Think the wood was cherry burl, and stag from Culpepper. Slightly better file work lol.

This one I really regret selling. Don't remember the exact type of bone it was, got it from Culpepper. It looked good going on, but once I started polishing it out, it started to look amazing. I had great depth, if that's a thing.
