TL-29 mods thread... Let's put 'em here

Post by Meridian_Mike »

I have been looking around the net and finding some old threads with some really COOL TL-29s that have had some REALLY NICE mods done to them. I have done only ONE (so far) but from what I am seeing, I am going to get out some of the ones I have and doll 'em up.

Here is my ONE...LOL.

It was a dead and HEAVILY rusted up Craftsman......
(I really need to put some new scales on this one.)
TL-29s.JPG
I have seen SEVERAL images of mods by Glenn and others.....

Now, show off what y'all have done for yourself or other folks.
LET'S SEE 'EM

Thanks, the last one was special to me. I made it as a gift for Ken Harred around the middle of 2018. He passed later that year.

You did a really great job on it SO... I bet it was special to him also.
I sure hope someone in his family is enjoying it now.

Glenn. You need to post a picture of the one you did for the Colonel when he retired from the Corps. That one is a real beauty.

Thanks! I don't think that was a TL-29 though, I think that was a Camillus 23 pattern

If you use your imagination the humble TL29 can be modded into quite a variety of styles ... these are a few I've done

A bunch of good lookers there Derek.

Yep, you are right... The TL-29 is like a blank slate waiting for someone to give them a new identity.

One of Glennbad's early ones. I think he said 2012 or so. But I like it.

You are of course, correct. Well that's embarrassing.

In an attempt to redeem myself, here are a few.

A 2012 effort by Glenn using a Queen Electrician.

Dale did this one for me in 2013. It's wonderful.

Another 2012 effort by Glenn for my favorite cousin.

Just remembered, I have this Utica that my brother in law got in a box of junk at an auction. Somebody beat on the back of the screwdriver blade with a steel hammer enough to break the blade off. A good candidate for a blade mod. What would look good on it? Big pen blade, Wharncliff or whatever? This new thread has got me thinking. ::undecided::

My vote is a big pen blade. I have been leaning in that direction for my next TL-29 mod.

That is a real beauty Scott. I love wood with a figure in it.
I'm amazed at the caliber of wood they call "waste" and put on shipping pallets. Heck, if you look close at those things you will see mahogany, maple, and a vast array of beautiful "curl" in those things.

Thanks for the kind words. I can't wait to see yours, Mike!

I have only done a decent job on these thanks to those that came before me that blazed the trail. Dale especially, but there was someone else, who I can't place the name now, that was doing these also, and had some unique modding ideas. Maybe Dale will remember...
