Remington R6816 Lockback Humpback Whittler - Real or not?

Post by rexstubbins »

I question this one mainly because it does not look like it has pinched bolsters and the chasing on the bolsters does not match the catalog. Pen blade also appears to be on the wrong side. What say ye all?

$9000.00? Is this guy serious? I could buy a brand new KTM with that.

The knife to me is about as rare as it gets. A knife like that needs to be judged in hand. Like the pitting on the blade and the etch, the choil looks odd. The pictures to me look as tho it's authentic but I couldn't spend that kind of money on pictures without the ability to return it. I think the knife is more realistically a $4500-$5500 knife. I don't have a problem with the location of the pen blade.

What about the fact that the bolsters are not pinched? If you look close they are just rat tail lines on the end to make it look pinched.

I agree with what your saying my knife has the exact same bolsters as the OP knife and by common definition don't match either. But I believe the bolsters to be correct. And my pen blade is on the incorrect side as the catelog pictures.

I suspect you don't list a knife like that on ebay because you expect someone to push the buy it now button - it is just to advertise it and get interested buyers to make contact. The scheme seems to at least partially succeeded - we all looked at the knife! For all I know, one of you wild-eyed Remington guys is negotiating with him right now... :D

At the least, the knife has been cleaned and re-etched.It is one of those knives you want to roll around in your hand a few times and give it a thorough evaluation.

It amounts to it ain't original and it ain't mint, and not worth a faction of the asking price.
