Case Coke Bottle Fake or ?????????

Post by herbva »

I think this is a fake, but I'm far from an expert. From the seller's pictures it looks to be about 3 1/2", but the Case swell-center 6225 1/2 "coke bottle" is only 3". The front and rear bolsters, for different reasons, look like nothing I have seen on a real Case knife. And, I think the tang stamps perhaps look to be cold stamped. Obviously, the celluloid scales are going kaput, but I've seen that on lots of old Case knives. Is this some other rare Case pattern that I should know about? ::hmm::

Funny to see the handles gassing and no evident blade rust. A pattern often seen counterfeited and this looks like one of them. Case made a 23 pattern small coke bottle at 3 1/2" but not with the bolsters like this and should be long pull.

Never seen bolsters like that on any Case. Hard to tell from the seller’s poor pictures but the tang stamps don’t look right, look like probably cold stamped.

Yeah I got sucked in on a counterfeit Challenge in the same pattern and material (as the Winchester shown) at SMKW years ago. I’ve spotted a few other old brands faked in this exact pattern and materials over the years since then.
I kept the counterfeit as a reminder of the old “if it’s too good to be true” adage.

Yeah, the resemblance to the Winchester coffin knife is really amazing, and what a coincidence! The thing I can't figure out is if someone went to the trouble to cobble that knife together from parts, why wouldn't they put some decent bone scales on it? I asked the seller about it and he just got back to me. He said he bought it years ago, doesn't know anything about it, and needs to sell some of his knives to buy a new truck.

Could that the cell someone used back in the late 80s/early 90s was some really bad stuff. The cobbler probably thought it looked good at the time though. ::nod::
