Got this off eBay . I should have scrutinized the description better because after the fact , red flags were there , I just couldn’t see them clearly. First thing was … comes with box .
It is a box . It is a case box . It is not the box for this knife . Ok I got an old case box .
At first site coming out of the box , it looked ok to me .
Then the Case stamp didn’t look quite right . No stamp on other side .
I can’t find any dating with these letters . I think I saw them for folders , but not the hunters
Then I noticed the blade is off center with the handle and guard
And the bolster is ground crooked.
I don’t have any other old Case hunting knives to compare to . QC seems to have been lacking if this thing is authentic.
So… what do you guys think ?

Re: Bad case ?
I agree with Red, knife is correct and probably correct sheath but blade does look buffed or cleaned. The mark on your knife is referred to as the Case "serifs" mark, serifs being the little "feet" on the letters. There are no Case ricasso charts and no Case pocket knife charts that are either complete or completely correct. No KA-BAR charts that are correct either. Brad Wood, the foremost Case hunting knife expert says he will make a correct chart for Case hunting knives but he has yet to publish it.
Re: Bad case ?
Thanks guys .Those little feet on the letters had me most concerned as I could not find them on any chart . I had noticed a difference in chart markings and thought maybe I just wasn’t find a proper one . I agree with the buffing theory. It looks like maybe some one got carried away .

Re: Bad case ?
As Gene said there are no good sources for Case fixed blade stamps. Unfortunately many people think the charts published for Case pocket knives also apply to fixed blades - they do not, at least not prior to 1965.
