Live Knife Auction Anyone?

Post by Bryan »

Would anyone have an interest in participating in a live auction through the chat room sometime?

I'd be glad to be auctioneer (...unless someone else wants to).

We could do a consignment that would allow for AAPK members to send in some items for the first attempt. If we get enough stuff to auction off, I'd be glad to advertise it via newsletter and maybe print material too.

I could put together a list that shows pictures and descriptions with numbers assigned to each knife or knife lot. Maybe even a video that shows off some of the more expensive pieces.

I'd donate my time. Any money raised could pay for the advertising or for improving the idea if it has a chance of becoming a regular event.

If we get enough interest, I'll put together more plans. If you have knives that you would like to consign, or if you might be a buyer, let me know. A max 10% consignment fee would surely do the trick in covering payment processing fees and any other expenses.

::tu:: Cool idea. I would bid on a few, but it would have to be in the evenings or weekends.

I'm thinking we do a couple test runs on a pre-set date. Maybe a couple Sunday evenings (yet to be determined)...

If the concept works out good a few times, maybe a first Sunday of each month program would be cool.

Anyone like a different day of the week or time of the month better than 1st Sunday of each month?

Thanks,
Bryan

I can pretty much do it any time. But many people get out of town for the weekend. Just by monitoring sales patterns, I think maybe Monday or Tuesday evenings would be better.

But you could vary the testing over a couple of evenings to see which worked the best as well.

I'd give it a try but with the time difference it would have to start around 4.00pm Eastern for me. Could it run over the course of several hours e.g people could list different starting times and these could be published in advance? Just my 2p :) s-k

Bryan, I would certainly help/participate any way needed. I'm sure several members attend church or visit family on Sundays, maybe Monday evening/night. Just my two cents as well.

Bryan,
I'll be glad for a chance to do a little bidding. I think Tank is right about Sunday. I too believe Monday evening would be a better option.

PM sent.

Bryan,

I think everyone would be interested in a live auction. It seems to me that with all the different times that people will be available to participate it would be great to add phone in bids and have it where people can call in bids early in case they won't be available at auction time. This would also be helpful for those of us who type too slow for chat.

I and other have some problem in the chat room.

It seems to what to kick or boot us out for some reason. I have cable and some nights are worst that others. I think it is a connection thing.

I would like to see about 20 people in it at one time. It seems to be a good time is 7:30pm to test this. So if any one wants to help test this PLEASE come in any night at 7:30 PM. to 8:00 PM CST.

I suppose step one will be to make certain our chat room environment will work properly for such an event.

I'll get to working on that asap. When we get those issues worked out, I'll start on a detailed game plan for running a smooth auction. Let's tentatively say our first auction effort will be on a Monday evening at some future date...

I'll post more details as the plan progresses ::tu::

Sounds like fun. I have not been to any auctions, live or ? . The closest to an auction that I've been to is ebay. Hope it is at a time when I can join in too. ::ds::

Hi Brian:
Sniping does make one grow weary. Sounds as tho the idea has a lot of merit. What type of time, reserves, increments etc. When time allows you to answer. The flea bay is getting more expensive. Was just informed auctiva is going to start charging for their service.
