In the basement
Re: In the basement
I'm glad you brought it back to life as well. Interesting hatchet. And it looks very use specific. Fine job Eustace.
Re: In the basement
Very nice restoration Eustace!
Besides being a tourist hatchet, is there a special use for that hatchet? I love the blade shape, very unique at least our eyes here.

Re: In the basement
Делчо, sorry for the late reply, but the last days have been very busy. The shape is typical of Bulgarian axes. This shape has been widespread throughout Europe since the early Middle Ages, but is now used only in the Balkans. It may also have been spread by Bulgarians when our country extended from the Danube springs to China I had an ax of this shape of the blade, that was at least 300 years old but unfortunately I sold it :

Interestingly, I also saw Japanese axes with this blade shape.

I really like this steel. As far as I know its main use is for industrial meat grinders.

I believe that’s a shingling hatchet. Made for splitting wood shingles/shakes. Similar to a roofer’s hammer, but without the nail hammer face.

I especially like the wood grain on the knife in the last picture. All three are well done!

Two knives that came back from hardening. Dead or alive, I have to finish it by Christmas. I do not know how it will happen...

Eustace I enjoy the time you spend in your basement. Both are fine knives.
