A knice looking knife Eustace. I like the blade form and I really like the handle. What is the wood? Great job.

Could it be Olive wood?

Re: In the basement
No. I think it's kind of ash wood (Fraxinus).

Re: In the basement
This hatchet is from flea market. The gypsy asked for 5 levа, but eventually agreed to 2 (about 1.50$). An old Bulgarian production from the 60's - 70's, it has a stamped price 3.50 лв - visible in the picture. Called tourist hatchets. Кnocking it with a wrench rings like a bell. I'm glad I brought it back to life.Meridian_Mike wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2019 8:08 pm WOW... that is a really cool looking axe/hatchet.... VERY nice!
Re: In the basement
I'm glad you brought it back to life as well. Interesting hatchet. And it looks very use specific. Fine job Eustace.
Re: In the basement
Very nice restoration Eustace!
Besides being a tourist hatchet, is there a special use for that hatchet? I love the blade shape, very unique at least our eyes here.

Re: In the basement
Делчо, sorry for the late reply, but the last days have been very busy. The shape is typical of Bulgarian axes. This shape has been widespread throughout Europe since the early Middle Ages, but is now used only in the Balkans. It may also have been spread by Bulgarians when our country extended from the Danube springs to China I had an ax of this shape of the blade, that was at least 300 years old but unfortunately I sold it :

Interestingly, I also saw Japanese axes with this blade shape.
