In the basement
Re: In the basement
Hey Eustace, looks like you have been at work again. Thanks for sharing. Excellent.
Re: In the basement
That looks good Eustace!
It looks like a comfortable handle also.

I especially like the wood grain on the knife in the last picture. All three are well done!

Two knives that came back from hardening. Dead or alive, I have to finish it by Christmas. I do not know how it will happen...

All are very nice. My favorite is the last one. Beautiful and looks very useable.
Re: In the basement
Eustace I enjoy the time you spend in your basement. Both are fine knives.
Re: In the basement
Thanks Georgi! The knife is really something else! You have blessed me with one heck of a fine piece of cutlery! I appreciate it very much!

By the way, my daughter chose this knife for you. I showed both the finished knives and asked her - choose for Tom. And she chose this one.TPK wrote: ↑Sun Jan 24, 2021 8:01 pmThanks Georgi! I am aware of my abilities. The knives I make, compared to the masters I see in this and other forums, are nothing special (and I'm ashamed of the sheath). But I know they are strong, well made and comfortable to use. I'm really glad you like it!
And the other is going to Switzerland tomorrow for a friend.

I love it Georgi! It's absolutely beautiful! I will cherish it as long as I live!

Re: In the basement
Cool! I just learned how to darken stuff! Great idea!
Here is something I like to do.
"Oiling Bones"
I like to apply Ballistol oil to bones. If the bones are not sealed with wax or polish the oil will bubble from the air coming out of the bones. The "Air Bubbles" turn the oil into foam. As you can see on these pictures. The red bone, I had already soaked several times so there are only a few small bubbles that are hard to see. The brown RR bone didn't take on any oil. Meaning it has some kind of sealer on it. And the C.F. Kayser bone handles were bubbling like crazy! I reapeat this treatment 4-5 times untill the bones are saturated & the bubbling stops. As was the case on the red bone. I normally only do this to older knives or EDC knives. I don't do it to new "Showcase" knives. It gives old dull bones a little bit more shine.

Re: In the basement
Hi Tom, how are you my friend?
In fact, my goal was to straighten it out. The original shape of the horn can be seen in the first photo. Darkening is a side reaction.
Re: In the basement
Doing fine Georgi. Hope you all are in good health!
Oh, srraightening. Ok good. Didn't know that was possible. Learned something new again.
