VERY old thrower

Post by Ridgegrass »

Bought this at a yard sale today for a dollar.12-1/8" long. It's really rusty and pitted but it's so cool. The forge welds close up are really good.Threw it at a box a few times, not bad! Wish it could talk. J.O'.

Thanks Mike.. Are you a "Folkie"? Those words in your quote I know as a verse of the "Ballad OF Barbara Allen" . Interesting?

LOL..... yep.... I guess you could call me that. I love the story that this song tells!
I HATED history in school but now I love anything historic!
I have been a soldier in the American Civil War, a longhunter seeking adventure on the American frontier and a private under the command of Robert Rogers where we fought the French and the native Americans loyal to the French.
I have sat around a lot of campfires and sang period songs. Old songs tell GREAT stories!

My West Virginia Grandmother used to sing "Barbrie" Allen around the house when I was a little guy. She always ended by looking at me and singing "the rose grew 'round the briar", as if she had written it herself. Great memory. Thanks, J.O'.

That almost looks like one of the old trade daggers that they used to barter with the Indians with.

I agree. The wide blade is very similar to the Sheffields on p. 330 of my old "Levine's" . That forge welded loop handle is a mystery. It's a cool thing. I actually gave it it's own spot on my cave wall.Wife frowned but it's not her cave. :D Thanks. J.O'.
