Homemade? Box knife

Bought this for a couple bucks at a church flea market. The little hammer piece is pinned on and swings a little bit, maybe 10 degrees. Handles are walnut or cocobolo. 7-1/8" total length. Cool relic. J.O'.

I think it is for opening wooden cigar boxes. Might be a production tool.

Would the notch be for prying out nails from the wooden crates or boxes? It maybe As you say Roland. interesting piece any manufacturer marks on it?

I think you have something there Roland. A production tool. While sealing up and even building small wooden boxes, this tool looks like it would definitely fit that purpose.The hammer part for driving in small nails and the notch for pulling nails......
