Re: How About a Pal Cutlery Thread?
As someone who has repaired a fair number of knives, I noticed some brands of knives tend to wear down the end of the tang, where it meets the spring, faster than other brands do. It has been my observation that Pal knives are one of those brands that wear faster.
There could be a variety of reasons for this: 1-The spring being harder than the end of the tang. 2-The knife has been used in an environment with abrasive dirt, such as sand and not cleaned properly. 3-Lack of proper lubrication. 4-A combination of the above.
It is difficult to make blanket statements about a brand based on a sample of a few knives, I have probably seen and worked on less than 100 Pal Blade & Pal Cutlery knives. However, there seems to be a higher percentage of these knives that blade lack snap due to the worn tang than with other brands.
I would be interested to hear from anyone else who has observed this or who disagrees. As I said, am basing this on a sample of 100 knives are less. I would like to get input from other people who have Pal knives, both with the Pal Blade & Pal Cutlery tang stamps.

That's where this one is. tang noticable short and edges rounded. I may find a new blade one day. For now it will go in the repair collection.

Re: How About a Pal Cutlery Thread?
Posted these before, but just saw this thread.
Here's one I found at the Blade show, basically mint as far as I can tell, and is a wonderfully made knife:
My father was issued this PAL on New Guinea in WWII and carried it through the rest of the war and for a lot of years afterword. He got the Nambu on Luzon:

Re: How About a Pal Cutlery Thread?
Johnnie, I've got some Japanese ammo that Dad gave me with the pistol. Didn't know that's what it was until I did a little research, but it's WWII issue Jap ammo. I thought it might have been reloads or something. The ammo actually has a little value.
I'd really like to shoot the thing but I've resisted so far...he'd probably get a kick out of it if I did a salute at his funeral, but that sorta thing don't go over real big around here anymore...

I'm sure it does. ......if I did shoot it...I would make sure to pick up the brass. I'm sure it would be cheaper to reload them. The ammo actually has a little value.
It sure is in nice condition....definitely a SWEETY!!

Yep...She's definitely a clean one.
I always keep moisture packets in the display box...or where ever I store my knives.
If you start worrying about Her to much...I could always keep Her out here in Tucson for ya.. ...It’s a DRY HEAT ya know..

Johnnie, I've heard about that "dry heat". Was out in Vegas when it was 108 dregrres of "dry heat". Burned the top of my head where the grass is thin. No sweat though. Slim.

From one Joe to another, gorgeous ole pal. I know Johnnie is gone to his reward but I wonder about Slim slim and cooter I don't think either has posted since I've been a member.
Re: How About a Pal Cutlery Thread?
Well, I have a couple of Pals, but they are Pal Brand, not Pal Blade or Cutlery.
From what I’ve found, Pal Brand likely makes it pre 1935. It’s certainly pre Remington.
The fixed is actually my favourite and my first decent ‘hunting knife’. It’s a bit hard to see, but the handle is wood and has great patina.
The little pen is a quite recent acquisition. I’m not sure what the scales are. I can’t see any lines. Perhaps celluloid, but if there’s white Bakelite, that might be it.

I’m too young to be this old!

Hello All. Some nice Pals you guys and gals are showing here. I like your little pen knife zoogirl. Not sure what those handles are but it looks neat and looks like it would ride almost unnoticed in the RFP. I also love the easy opener shown by slimpickens, just beautiful.
I'm a Pal fan but I only own the one below. It's a Pal Cutlery Co. The main blade is a bit lazy on closing but overall very usable. I think the bone is beautiful and it was impossible to pass up.
