Ken, Blackjack started in CA, then went to Japan, back to the U.S. in Effingham, Il. The last I heard they are now made by Bark River which is located near Escanaba Michigan. (Google is so smart.)

Made in USA but I don't know where in USA.
Mike Stewart who, together with a young South African, Steven Lewis, formed a company called Blackjack Knives early in 1987.
Before the company moved to Effingham IL they were located in the following locations, Chatsworth , CA circa 1987, Canoga Park, CA circa 1988, and Van Nuys, CA circa 1989-1991.
In late October of 1991, Mike and his family packed up and headed to Effingham, IL."

“The Company ceased business in Effingham in the Summer of 1997.”
Quote from Mike Stewart – Founder of Blackjack Knives

Somehow they ended up in Michigan, post 1997. I think. Don't take that to the bank.

As I understand it, there are different Blackjack knives. They were originally made in Japan but problems with the Japanese contractors forced blackjack to bring manufacture home to USA, I have never personally come across one of these Japanese made knives.
There are the $24 blackjacks made in China. The $24 knives are plentiful and easy to find.
However, there are still dealers out there that have a few of the USA made knives from before Blackjack went out of business. The USA knives are getting harder to find and much more expensive.

I have had few Boker Magnum knives. They have some Vox designed knives and they bring pretty good money. Boker Magnum’s have the same lifetime warranty that all Bokers have. I don’t like that most are made in China, but the quality is pretty consistent and, I think, pretty good.

Hi David,

I have two Böker Magnum's. One exactly like the bottum knife you pictured. And a Mini Stockman with MOP scales. The F&F on both are super! ::tu:: I have never used or carried either of them yet though. ::shrug::

A trip to the Stihl Dealership this morning.

PS10 Folding Saw; made in Japan. Pretty solidly built, and sharp teeth. $20; and much of an upgrade over the cheap Kobalt I use currently, and a bit bigger and more capable than the small Silky that is also used a lot, for green wood. Says for branches 2" and smaller--but I know firsthand it can cut up to 4" limbs if I need to and have nothing else. I like folding saws for woods walking, and jobs where a chainsaw is either overkill, or potentially unsafe (aka above my head, or in a tree); and they are usually quicker cutting, and more capable and effective than most saws on a knife, not only due to being bigger, but the pull-cut saws tend to cut more than the push/pull variety most knives have. Weird that it's got "PULL" printed in Spanish on the blade.

Stone River "Heavy Duty" Lockblade Knife; Chinese-made; $15. OK, I wanted a Stihl branded knife in my collection. There are German-made Richartz ones made many years ago, but people want stupid money for those things on the secondary market. Feels definitely like a $15 knife from anyone but Rough Rider; and it is sharp. Blade has smooth action, strong lock, and the handle material is pretty grippy due to the rubber (albeit, plastic is not nylon, but ABS). Sheath is pretty good, with a strong enough snap that shouldn't pop open if hooked on something. I think it will work OK, just not impressive; like a Rough Rider Folding Hunter (same price), Kabar Dozier (little more money) or the Buck 110LT (five dollars more). And the Buck is made in America. I'd love for Stihl to have the 110LT replace this thing--orange handle (as already used on them for Factory Specials and SMKW), Stihl logo etched on blade, black sheath with orange piping and orange steel logo. That would be how I'd do it. They already have the 285 Bantam (which I'm having my dealer order soon); but it's got a black handle; not orange.

KIMG1370.JPG
New aggressive "Chipper" chain for the 35 year old 011AV, which is now mine; since my folks upgraded to an MS170 for the small saw (and both saws actually have the same bar and chain). Because it doesn't have that crappy Chinese carbeuretor that floods constantly, it's easy to start. For my own saw, I wanted a vintage Stihl with about a 15" or so bar made and assembled in Germany; but since we no longer have flea markets thanks to COVID, I'm gonna have to use this one for the time being. And besides, this is new enough to have such modern features as an automatic oiler and a chain brake.
KIMG1374.JPG
And the MS170. It is built a LOT cheaper than my 011AV, but it doesn't weigh much at all, which means I can carry it if I have to walk. My folks bought it to replace the 011AV as the backup and small jobs saw.

These were in Saturday's mail, which I didn't pick up until today (it's close to a half-mile from my house to the mailbox). They only cost $20 each--disregard the prices shown on them.

Schrade USA 96OT Bearhead. Been carried and sharpened considerably. Pick and tweezers are still there. I've found some factory leftover tweezers, and bought a few as spares. No luck on the picks. I won't carry this one a whole lot, because these are mildy expensive in most cases.

Schrade USA SC505 "Seagulls" One of the brochures and the bottom of the box is to the knife; while the lid and another catalog is to the SC506 (either raccoons or pheasants; depending on year; and given the carnage they did to our hen population one year, I do NOT like racoons) Barlow. Gonna have to get the SC506 now. I love the Scrimshaws.

This is a well made knife by Moore Maker; a 3 1/2" Stockman. The outstanding feature of this knife is its beautiful Buffalo Horn covers which are among the best I have seen having evenly spaced white striations. Sorry I couldn't get better pictures of them. I believe Sharpnshinyknives has one more similar knife.

This 2nd knife is from Hen&Rooster which are still made in Solingen. For not much money this is a very decent knife. Based on this and a few other Hen&Rooster knives they seem to have mastered producing tight runups. The color is green leaning towards turquoise.
