Picked four up at pawn shop today. Camillus, Schrade, Ranger, and a no name Barlow.

Went by Barrett's Auction House today and came across this Buck 180DB (Double Blade) Crosslock w/ Spear Point & full Serrated Sheepsfoot. It has a 1994 date stamp...but here's the thing...Buck did not start production on this particular model Crosslock until 1997. So, I did some research at BCCI and discovered in their "Model History" about this knife and all the 180 Crosslock variations, that this knife was quite possibly one that was shown at the 1994 Shot Show due to the "Pat Pending" stamp on the liner lock. All 180DB Crosslocks produced in 1997 through 2001, from what I could find, does not have the 'Pat Pending' stamp on the liner lock. So, my belief, and of course, pure speculation is; these 'Pat Pending' stamped Crosslocks that were shown at the Shot Show in 94 were given to dealers for advertising and showing as a 'prototype'. And this one, through out the years, made its way to Barrett's. I could very well be full of it and just want to believe something I've conjured up in my own mind. Nevertheless, it's a rare one and a keeper that is in very excellent condition. Also, the ones that were produced in 97 had the 'blue' insert in the handle...mine is black with no wording. There are also 1994 stamped models of this knife with the blue insert with the word "CROSSLOCK" on the blue and also stamped 'Pat Pending'. Again, with all the variations of the 180 Crosslocks that were shown at the 94 Shot Show, it makes sense that they were stamped with Pat Pending to protect Bucks Copy Right / Trademark.

Sorry for the long dissertation on this knife, but thought maybe other Buck fans may find this interesting...or could add to or take away from my findings / thoughts about this particular model. But hey...a $40.00 find for a 26 year old knife that is also hard to find and selling for $80.00+ at the bay is a GREAT find, imho.

EDIT: Well, after a bit more research on the bay, and receiving word from Mr. Houser, it appears that Buck used the "Pat. Pending" & 1994 date stamp on the liner lock release on pretty much all the Crosslock variations. I guess Buck had so many of them, they used them up on all the models. Makes sense to do that, but now it's difficult to actually tell when a specific model was produced, for they're not stamped on the blade(s). One would have to refer to the "Model History Timeline" on these to determine their actual production year(s). So, the one I have could be a 1997 - 2001 make. Nevertheless, I have a great user and a solid knife.

I also picked up a small Victorinox finger nail cleaner for a couple $$.
