I'm no doctor but I have a good bit of experience with this sort of situation. Looks like you need more Neosporin and keep it covered with a Band-Aid for another few days. N a s t y !!

Thanks Jerry ... yup, my diagnosis exactly ... took that pic while letting it get some air and "de-prune" ... it had been covered and "Neosporined" for two days at that point ... covered her back up for a day ... now down to just a heavy Band-Aid ... comin' along fine ...

Side note: try going through your day with one thumb ... button a shirt, tie your shoes, heck try just putting a belt on ... using only one of your thumbs ... seriously challenged ... :|

Glad we brought back a fond memory for ya Colonel, but it's Jerry who deserves your thanks!

BTW, I am also a 3 Stooges fan, so I fully concur. Doctor.

OUCH!
I see several old scars on those old ragged fingers. Just one more mark of character.

Been lucky so far ... nothing significant, but it's just a matter of time. Getting bit doesn't sound like much fun. What I'm really worried about is sharpening woodworking plane blades with a roller skate jig (Scary Sharp method) ... that won't be just a bite if it ever happens - that will cost me at least a fingerprint if I'm lucky ...

Here's a little tip for ya'all to try, if you'd like. Broad-leaf Plantain. Can almost guarantee you'll find it growing in your yard, if you don't spray poison on the yard for weed control, I recommend trying a poultice, and be amazed at the results. Lots of info on YouTube about it, not just a "backwoods" remedy. Your public service announcement. ::tu::

Scott there must be something in the air today. A couple of days ago my next door neighbor told me someone at work had given him a couple of worn out knives and he asked me if l wanted them. Well of course I said sure and he told me that he would leave them on the table on my back patio when he thought to bring them home. Well I went out back this evening and sure enough there laid two small knives. One was a Colt toothpick with a broken backspring not good for much. The other was a small Case stockman so gunked up with some sort of sticky stuff that none of the blades would open. Well I immediately went to work on it by giving it a liberal 3in1 oil bath. It looked like someone had left it in the bottom of a full pouch of Redman tobacco as i pulled several pieces of tobacco leaf out of it. I gently worked the blades until I got the clip blade to finally openthen started to work on the sheepsfoot. When it started to open my fingers slipped of the sheepsfootannd ran directly down the clip blade. Yoweee! About a quarter inch deep. I doctored it and finished cleaning the knife. Most of the gunk came of. I don't think this knife had ever been used before. It lioks like it still has the factory edges. So my finger was probably the first thing it had ever cut.

Well I read all the post and thought it may be my time to put my two cents in. Had been working out in the yard for most of the day, decided it was quitting time. Went in the back room to change and take a shower. Took my shoes off at the back door and took the stuff out of my pockets and put them on top of the dresser . Can't remember why but needed my knife for something. I opened it up to use it and in the process after it was opened droped it . At that time I was more agile and did not want it to stab me in the foot.So as the open knife was falling I jumped away , it fell straight down and fell with point pointing up and I jumped right on the open blade. Had a sore foot for a few days.
Honey do you have your pocket knife ? Do I have my pants on?

It's been a few years now so I think I can share my most embarrassing mishap

I was up at the GEC factory for the tour one year, and everything was going great until I wandered into the "Show and tell" room up front. This was right after the first GEC Congress had been released, and they had some samples for folks to play around with.

Literally the first knife I picked was a brand new congress. I opened one of the big sheepsfoot blades, then promptly closed it on my finger. The edge was sharp enough at the tip that it went clean through the side of the my thumb all the way to the nail and close normally. I quickly set the knife back on the counter and quietly walked away hoping nobody noticed ::facepalm::

I made it out of the room before it started bleeding like a stuck pig. Walked straight back to my car leaking people juice everywhere, grabbed my FA kit and patched myself up with every bit of gauze and tape I had. Probably needed a few stitches honestly. Ended up having to stop at the CVS down the street to pick up another box of gauze as I had soaked through everything.

The worst was when I tried to pop off the locking ring on an Opinel with the blade open. For some reason I thought it had to be open. I was using needle nose pliers to spread it apart and pushing upwards with quite a bit of strength at the same time with my right hand. Holding the handle with my left. When the ring went and popped off all fingers but my thumb slid heavily against the very thin blade which I had recently sharpened on my Ken Onion Work Sharp. Probably should've gotten stitches but some paper towel and electrical tape did the trick.
