Been awhile since I added a Canoe to my collection; but, once I saw the gnarly stag bark on this 1979 Queen club knife it was impossible for me to resist.

I’ve been eyeing those myself Charlie. I love green and that is especially nice color and jigging.

There is another version of this knife, that found out about after I had ordered this one, which is gold and green. I'll be gunning for that one next.

Congrats Squach, very interesting scales. What would they be made of? Looks like a St. Patricks day carry for sure.

Thanks Iman. The handles are listed as Brilliant Green bone with laser artwork. It's very similar to the Bermuda Green Ivy bone canoe I've posted in the past. In both cases the black part is carved into the bone. So you don't have to go looking for it I'll post it again.

Glad I ran across this thread. I have lately developed a better appreciation of these knives. I count 3, so far. A Queen in stag, a Kinfolk by Queen in red bone and a Henckels stag with 5 blades. Today at a gun/knife show I ogled a couple which I passed on and opted for a Mt Man Bulldog in rams horn.I cant do photos, I spent all my computer lesson money on knives.

Thanks Squach, appreciate it. Brilliant green is right. Amazing texture and work on the laser cutting or whatever it is. Very cool, goes great with the design on the bolsters.

I read once where case bros claimed to have invented the canoe and the toenail. Jim Parker was interested in this knife his whole life. I got it when I was quite young and he wanted it. He pulled out a brand new 100 and waived it in front of my face. This was at a parkers knife show/auction maybe pigeon forge. I politely declined... this went on for a few days. During that time I got to know him and his family and brother. I also got to see hid trading knives under the table. he had a Marbles Sunfish and a Platts sunfish. We just couldnt quite get there on a deal.

Another outstanding canoe DC!!!

I don't believe Case "invented" the canoe pattern. However they can probably lay claim to popularizing it. I have seen pics of Civil War era pocket knives that bear a distinct resemblance to the canoe shape. They may not have been called canoes at the time but they sure looked like they could be. The beginnings of the pattern predate Case and have morphed over time into what we now call the standard canoe pattern. One would be hard pressed to nail down an exact point at which the "canoe knife" was born. Add to that the fact that there are fixed blade knives also called canoes and you have your work cut out for you looking for the origin. In today's world I have canoe folders made by a wide variety of cutlers. Finding any as old and wonderful as yours is about a difficult as finding when and where the pattern actually started.
