Re: DO YOU........................CANOE ?
I have one similar to that one Charlie and it’s one of my favorites. That’s a classic look on that knife.

Nice one Charlie!
I admire those who can be so focused, so dedicated to a single style or brand of knife. It makes for an impressive collection, in my opinion even more so than an eclectic collection of shear quantity.
Might I coax you into a group photo of all your canoes?

Thank you guys!
Here you go Steve, a recent shot of the knife corner. Sorry I couldn't get the pic any clearer and still get the whole thing in frame.

Re: DO YOU........................CANOE ?
Very cool!
Could I get a close up on that one left of center, toward the top right, just below but slightly above catty-corner to the other one on the big case with the other knives on it?
Yup! VERY cool!!

Hey Charlie, How do you have those displays anchored to the wall? I know they are heavy when filled w/ knives like that. I use to have mine on the wall but never felt like they were up there securely enough, so I took them down. If you could show some pics of the anchors and the backs of the displays, that would help me out. Sorry to put you to work today.
I love the way that corner looks w/ all those knives there.

Re: DO YOU........................CANOE ?
I got a canoe in today. I bought it to resell, but after doing a bit a research on it, I might just keep it. A.G. Russell’s Cutting Edge resell site shows one like it that sold recently w/ pearl handles and they had the date on it of 1969-1970. Given how spectacular the stag is on this, I think that age would be about right. You just don’t see stag handles that aren’t hafted down to the white. This has grain right to the bolsters on both sides, which makes me think it’s an older knife. Made in Germany.

Re: DO YOU........................CANOE ?
PM sent. This was certainly made by Bertram, Hen & Rooster. In that time frame Russell had German made knives carrying his label made by Bertram.

Re: DO YOU........................CANOE ?
The wall with most of the displays on it is actually brick covered with a smooth cement layer. I used a masonry bit and plastic expansion anchors to put hangers in the wall. The displays simply have holes drilled in the back panels. I used small pan-head screws in the anchors leaving only enough protruding to engage the holes in the displays without protruding far enough to interfere with the knives in the display separated from the screw heads by a layer on foam and a sheet of velvet. The other (short) wall is drywall and I used toggle anchors for the displays on that wall. They are the ones that have two spring loaded arms that open inside the wall after passing through the hole. By adding an extra nut and washer you can adjust how much of the screw is left exposed when the anchor is tightened up securely. I haven't had one fall yet. Sorry but taking them down and putting them back up is the chore involved with collecting I dislike the most.Sharpnshinyknives wrote: ↑Wed Apr 29, 2020 6:21 pmHey Charlie, How do you have those displays anchored to the wall? Squach...that is an amazing collection and set-up for your display and enjoyment!!! Where do you get those rectangular display cases, like the upper right one, that holds 28 knives?

Re: DO YOU........................CANOE ?
Well, I've been "accumulating" knives most of my life which is not necessarily "collecting". It was about 2006 or '07 when I was looking at a drawer or two full of pocket knives in my basement shop. They were knives that had belonged to family members or myself over the years. I decided that it would be nice to organize them rather than leaving them collect dust in those drawers....and a collector was born! So my collection is a combination of a lifetime accumulation and 13 or 14 years of cherry picking for a real collection. The canoe was a popular pattern among my grandfather's generation so I had a few and decided that I would concentrate on that pattern. I do collect other patterns but the Case Canoes are the heart of the collection.Quick Steel wrote: ↑Wed Apr 29, 2020 6:30 pm Squatch, may I ask how many years of collecting is represented by your superb collection?

Re: DO YOU........................CANOE ?
I have purchased all of my displays (except for the Case Mint Set and a couple of Case commemorates which came with their own display) from a Company named Custom Displays, here's their web site - https://www.customdisplays.com/knife-display-cases.html
They offer a selection of sizes and materials.
