Mahalo, Ivoryman...you nailed it: Kentucky Shiner with a 4-1/8" Wharncliffe (it's a handful of a knife, for sure ::nod::).

Ahhhhhh, thanks for the open shot. Good looking piece, congrats. Love the sexy curve of the handle. I have been looking at those lately with a spear. Even bid a nice wormgroove spear, but alas, was well outbid as usual lately. I like that one.

Q, Way back on Oct 21 you showed a small Trapper with checkered wood. Striking and beautiful. (Better late than never I hope.)

Thanks David, much appreciated

Here is some rare Cocobolo burl that I picked up years ago, Devin Thomas forged the billet for me with a CruForgeV core and high contrast Bubblewrap damascus. Johnny Stout made the drop point for me.

No photos, just an observation and comment. Was just looking at the Horticultural and Pruning thread, there is some beautiful examples of old wood covers there. Something truly beautiful with old aged and preserved wood. :)

I just lost an ebay auction for an old Lee Hdwe Co. with very nice wood scales. I should have bid more...

I bought this Victorinox Swiss Army Tinker with broken scales, so I made some wooden replacements. I do not know the species of wood - I got it from the cutoff/discount bin at Woodcraft.
I have not sealed it with anything. This dark wood takes on a beautiful luster when sanded smooth. The pictures do not do it justice.

This is a drop point Hunter by Mr. Itou. Has R2 Damascus with a Rockwell of 62. The handle is made of Premium Desert Ironwood.

Very nice! That knife has a San Mai blade with a core steel, the low layer stainless is cladding for the core. Do you know what steel the core is? I would not be surprised if it was Cowry X or SG2. Nice knife.

Edit: I just looked up R2, it is very much like SG2, made by Kobelco. SG2 is made by Takefu.

Thank you very much for your observations.

I am uncertain on this point. I am not familiar with the various steel manufacturers.
