P.B. have you ever used mineral oil on stag to try and "rejuvenate" it or freshen it up? If so, how have you applied it?Papa Bones wrote: ↑Tue Aug 31, 2021 3:04 am Some sweet folders and fixed blades being put on the trails.

Re: Knives in the Wild
To answer your question in short, yes I've used mineral oil on one fixed blade I had for several years and on several older bovine bone handle knives. I only use food grade non-formulated mineral oil. This is the type you get at a pharmacy. I use a cotton swap, to apply it, and get in all the nooks and crannies, just enough to be damp with it. Then I will wipe off any excess with a soft cloth.
There has always been a great debate on using any types of oils on stag and bone. Some claim it will soften or discolor over time. I've not seen this with pure food grade mineral oil. It has no additives, and is odorless, tasteless and will not go rancid like plant based oils. Just my .02 cents worth that ain't worth a nickle.

Thanks Smitty, it is good to know about the food grade mineral oil. I was using the cheapo-stuff before...Papa Bones wrote: ↑Sun Sep 05, 2021 2:24 amTo answer your question in short, yes I've used mineral oil on one fixed blade I had for several years and on several older bovine bone handle knives. Wood always makes a great backdrop for a knife. Superb photo, as always!
Nice! I'd be very tempted to drop a line in the lake.

John, you could have posted a crappy photo taken on your trash can in the backyard, and it would have been great to see! Have really missed your outings and pics, and great to see them again! Nice one, glad you are doing better!

I believe it would be best not lay your knife on that rail! That might turn into an oops moment.roseandthistlecustom wrote: ↑Sat Sep 18, 2021 10:38 pm IMG_20210917_181002_297.jpg
