Nice Pete, I like the way that Barlow is curved. Is the handle ivory? It sure looks like ivory. Very nice old Barlow.

I think you are right David, I didn’t look closely at the larger pictures, it does look like bone when you see those.edge213 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 12:35 amI'm not Pete, but it sure looks like bone to me.Sharpnshinyknives wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 12:30 amNice Pete, I like the way that Barlow is curved. Re: Barlows does anyone else love them
I have a Barlow with no markings on it. Anyone have an idea as to the maker? It feels to be very well made. Could it have been etched on the blade as was the case with some of the Queen Knives for a period of time? I have very little knowledge on Barlows.

Very nice! How old would you estimate this knife to be?

You state you have little knowledge on barlow's, keep it that way, you don't need another rabbit hole to get caught in, it is a maze down there.
Re: Barlows does anyone else love them
Lovely handles!
Re: Barlows does anyone else love them
Really Awesome Barlow!
Goins list:
OAK (stamped on bolster)
"Sheffield England" is stamped on the blade.
g 1890-1900
I also, have never seen one.
I think the number of brands of barlows is limitless.

Just like edge213, I had to look that one up. A very nice HOK (honest old knife) barlow.

Re: Barlows does anyone else love them
I added another barlow to my group. It is a cheapie, but like new, and I like knives that are a little different. This one a Barlow produced by Providence Cutlery Company for Ric-Nor electrical supply. It is unused and like new. It has "Electric Mate" stamped on the bolsters, has a tang stamp of "Ric-Nor" over "Boston,U.S.A.", black plastic shell handles with a bail. The main blade is a Large Sheepsfoot blade and the secondary is a screwdriver blade and has a liner lock. Blades are tight, no wobble and has great snap. This is a cheapie, but a design that I think is neat, plus I like the history behind it.
Ric Nor was an electrical supply wholesaler. The company was formed in 1914 and went out of business in 1966. The knife tang stamps reads Boston, however Ric Nor was primarily located in Charlestown, Massachusetts. The Electric Mate was an electrician knife made for Ric Nor by the Providence Cutlery Company located in Providence, Rhode Island.
