Post by raincrowe »

Cleaver approx. 13 1/2 inches long stamped... W.H. Greaves & Sons No 0.... Nice heavy made blade beautiful wooden handle!....I've owned this cleaver for several years; all the information I've found is in (Levine's Third edition pg. 49) which states built Sheaf Works 1823-1826 Sheffield England Mfr. 1816-1850...sold to B.J. Eyre 1850...Would like to see if anyone can enlighten us further!!

Raincrowe - nice cleaver ::tu:: ...

Greaves and Sons were known for table cutlery, razors and well known for their Bowie knives - the latter were some of the earliest made in 1830s-40s..

Raincrowe, that’s an old beauty! I love the patina on the handle. It was built to last, and so it has.
I wonder if you’ve noticed the section titled ‘In The Kitchen’. Perhaps if you posted there as well, you might find a cleaver collector lurking around who has more info.
Btw, cool wheel too!

::nod:: Go to Knife Forums. Scroll down until you see Speciality Forums. In The Kitchen is one of the forums. It’s for butcher knives, cleavers, carving sets, etc.
Welcome to AAPK! Come in and have some fun, with a generous dose of education and support thrown in! ::nod::
