What a sad week this has been for AAPK with the loss of both Tim Butler (basser5) and now Doug Webber (dweb 1897). I had the privilege of meeting Doug in person at the Oregon Show a few years ago. He was very pleasant and kind and sure had an infectious enthusiasm about the knives he loved. He certainly had an amazing collection of fine knives that he'd put together over the years. Other than that one meeting, all of our interactions were through AAPK. I found him to be very honest, friendly, and willing to help others who shared a common interest. He will be sadly missed.

Very saddened to hear about dweb his morning. While I only knew him through the pages of AAPK and his Schrade expertise in particular, he will be missed as one of the kinder and more knowledgeable collectors online. I will keep him in my thoughts and my condolences go out to his family and friends. RIP Douglas.

Very sad indeed. Even though we knew it was near, the reality of the end is a somber moment when we lose such an esteemed member. Rest in peace Doug.

Very saddened by the news and shocked, I knew things were crook but thought he had more time...
Doug helped me out a couple of times via his connection with Schradenut (Tony) and I bought one beautiful Rigid knife from him that will now never be sold

Sorry to hear the AAPK has lost a member that so many of you thought so highly of. I never got the chance to get to know him so I guess I really missed a blessing. My condolences to all who knew him. RIP Mr. Webber. You are missed by many. ::pray::

I was sure not ready for this news; in fact I was planning on calling him this afternoon. I thought he had more time. We emailed back and forth and did some knife business over the last couple years, and if he hadn't been able to go to North Carolina to visit Herman, it was sort of in the works to drive to Eugene together. I was fortunate to be able to talk on the phone with him just a couple weeks ago and we did some more knife business as well. Darn! I just lost another classmate three days ago as well. The pulmonary issues are brutal; that is probably what will take me, as well, as I have COPD. Doug had more courage and attitude than I could muster in his boots, I am sure. I really admire that Man, both then and still. RIP.

Thank you for letting us know, Schadenut, and for sharing your memories.

Two prolific posters, Doug (dweb) and Tim (Basser) both gone in one week. That is sad news for this forum.

Oh no.
Dweb is a name I recognize very well. I must confess. I did always read it as ‘Dweeb’ and laugh a little.
I remember reading his posts regarding his health. I guess I thought he had months, at least.
I’m going to miss him.

This has come as a total shock to me. Doug had actually won a knife from me on Ebay this past weekend. It was actually in the 15th, which must mean that he had a snipe on it. I was wondering why I hadn't received a payment yet as he always paid within minutes of a win, but I really wasn't concerned at all. Now I just read this and it hit me like a ton of bricks. How things happen so quickly, so suddenly. You're living out your days making plans, talking with friends and family, putting a bid on a knife and anticipating a win and suddenly everything ends in a flash. It's so heart wrenching I get completely choked up just thinking about it. I wish the best for his family and friends, and hope everyone can get through with just a few scars but far more happy thoughts of all the joy Doug brought to everyone he touched. It's always too soon for folks like him.

Great guy and great contributor of knife knowledge here, RIP Doug.

I hated to hear of Doug's passing. Doug and I had a mutual fondness for the Aurum etched knives, he had a few I wanted and I a few he wanted, that's how collecting goes. We bought/sold between each other knives and did some trading, stand up guy. I am sorry to hear of his passing. He told me of his plans for his knives, I hope he was able to put it all together before he passed. Nice tributes from fellow collectors. As long as Doug's knives are in the hands of those that appreciate them, Doug's memory will live on. God Bless.
