my retirement knife

Finally found one of these at a decent price.
This is reserved for retirement in about 5 or 6 years when my wife and I move to Eastern North Carolina.
We have a house near Plymouth but gonna move their soon... hopefully.

All I can think about is walking on the beach with my wife looking for seashells.

Not to be morbid but if my kids slip a knife in my pocket when I leave this earthly form i would like it to be this one.

Anyway, I'm sure many here have already retired but my question to all is...
Do you have a "retirement knife"?

I didn't know this but Schrade called their white delrin for the scrims "Whale tooth delrin" ... huh, go figure

I don't have a retirement knife but I've got plenty that would qualify. My knives see about 95% of their usage at the workplace.

My biggest fear regarding knives in retirement is that I won't need one anymore after that.

Although I was not thinking of it that way at the time, this was my first Case knife that I bought new about a month before I retired.

I always liked those Schrade scrimshaws. Make sure and get a sheath for it too. Walking on those beaches you'll most likely be using it around saltwater. I still have a long ways to retirement but when I decide to get myself a blade to commemorate, it'll be USA made classic just like that one.

I'm somewhere between 2 years and 6-1/2 years from retirement (dependent on whether I choose to go on my minimum goal or my maximum goal). Not sure on the date but am sure on the knife - will be a Buck 110 Folding Hunter from their custom shop with stag handles, S30V blade steel, and engraved nickel bolsters. Going to have the company initials, my initials, and my service dates engraved on those bolsters. OH

With my company Jerry (aiming for 40 years in 3-1/2 more years). I retired from the ARNG in 2005 with 32 years. I have a Randall Knife that commemorates my ARNG service. OH

I wonder how many (non knife) companies give a knife to someone who retires.
I know previously people got pens and watches.

Does any company give out anything to the retiree any more ( other than a kick in the pants)?

My unsolicited advice is to carry it now, at least on the weekends and vacation, if it can't be carried while working.
Having just survived a heart attack, my attitude has changed towards saving my stuff for later and special occasions.

But, that's just my take these days.

I know of at least one that did: A company with the initials "ICI" gave this Gerber FS to the father of one of my co-workers upon his retirement. After his father passed he gave it to me knowing I collected knives.The emblem is gold and there is a diamond inset.
I have a couple of other Gerber knives that were given out;whether it was retirement or not I'm not sure.Here are pictures of them.

When I retired I was given a knife of sorts, a brass letter opener with my name and OED 270 engraved on it.
OED stands for Oregon Employment Department and 270 was the number of the Albany, Oregon field office from which I retired.

The dark color on the handle is a reflection of my green T-shirt.

This is what I consider to be my "retirement knife." This is the second one I have made like this and I intend to keep it. I sold the first one and regretted it, and it took me a few years to find the right bone to remake it. It is a Kershaw Wild Turkey #4150, the handle is Amber dyed Impala jigged bone.

I quite recently picked up a Domtar money clip knife. Dunno if they were retirement knives though. When my dad worked for the company, we had Typhoon Frida. The fellas put in night and day shifts making shingles. As a thank you, the each got a beautiful little pearl penknife. I sure wish I had it, but it was one of the items stolen out of moms house while it was empty. Here’s the Domtar. Btw, Dad was there 23 years.
