Hello Zoltan. From 2 of my reference books it looks like Brown Brothers was a trade name for knives manufactured by Union Razor from about 1890 to 1902. (Union Razor later became Union Cutlery in 1909) . I have no idea of value, but it looks like a fine old knife.

Brown Brothers Tidioute originated in 1902 and soon thereafter changed names to a Union Cutlery Company, so knives with that stamp were only made for a short time.

Wallace R. and Emerson Brown were brothers and descendants of Job Case (and cousins of the Case brothers). Brown Brothers Knife Co. originated in Little Valley, NY in 1890, then in 1902 they purchased Tidioute Cutlery at which time it became Brown Brothers, Tidioute PA. They soon changed its name to Union Cutlery. Eventually after later moving operations to Olean, NY it became Kabar Cutlery.

That’s a synopsis - it’s more complex than that.

Could that be Tortoise shell, or did they make celluloid that far back?

Early versions of celluloid were in commercial use by the 1870s.

The tortoise celluloid is usually lighter/brighter in color. Real tortoise is quite dark (unless under laid with gold foil) like this knife.
