I think 24 hours response time is reasonable, and on weekends maybe longer.New_Windsor_NY wrote: ↑Mon Jun 21, 2021 11:05 pm This is why participation is down.
Much too much time between initial postings, guesses and replies.
Actually, it's pathetic.
It was father's day this Sunday so guess were I was?!

I stopped playing this game because some have been going back through old post to find pictures of knives being posted here.
It was my understanding this thread was to be a learning experience for us all.
I posted a couple of knives that there is no way anyone could have guessed without at least one clue, but were guessed right away.
I had posted these knives awhile back in other post.

I never played this game since it was started, but I was surprised when some of these were identified right away
Not only were old posts being searched but I think some members name the photo file using the name of the knife in the picture and all you have to do is download the knife picture and you can read the name of the file and thus identity the knife in question!
Not a real learning experience if you are "cheating".
The knife I have posted has never been shown here before so it is not going to be know very easy, and that's why there are so few responses

I was enjoying this thread, until others started "cheating ". It was helping me learn different jigging patterns, frame shapes, bolster designs etc used on specific brands. My knife buddies and I have been playing a similar game when we get together. If you have a knife to show we would try to guess the brand before opening a blade. This has helped my knife knowledge by a lot.
Now that they know we are on to them maybe they will play "fair" from now on. It will benefit them and make the game fun again for others.

Re: Mystery Knife Game
I did a lot of searching of old posts, but not for the posted knife. If the posted knife had a distinct shield, or bone, I searched the shields or the bone threads to find knives with characteristics similar to the posted knife. If by some chance I happened upon the posted knife, I would not submit a reply. I also spent a lot of time manually searching through Levine's list of pocketknife manufacturer's, to follow up on the given clues.Miller Bro's wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 10:39 pmYou hit the nail right on the head David!edge213 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 2:27 pmI don't think this is the reason.New_Windsor_NY wrote: ↑Mon Jun 21, 2021 11:05 pm This is why participation is down.

The reason I quit playing is that summer is here and I spend most of my time at the lake, where I have no power or internet access, only coming home for appointments or building materials.

Nothing wrong there danno, you are doing research and learning in the process. That's the point of the game.
