Any VALLEY FORGE collectors ?

Post by Ridgegrass »

VF knives were nicely styled and made. Here are a few. 1&2: Two views of a 3-9/16" Swell center balloon pen.big clip blade, beautful piece
3. a 3-3/4" Coper Jack.
4. 3-7/16" wood handled Jack (stamped VALLEY FORGE only. All others are VALLEY FORGE CUTLERY, Newark, N.J. USA)
5. A very old, ebony, iron-lined, rat tail, Congress jack. 3-5/8"
6. Bare head Jack. Ebony, 3-3/4".
All second blades bear the VF in a circle tang stamp.

Got any? Like to see them. J.O'.

Ridgegrass, nice collection of VF knives ::tu:: I have a few that I will try to post some photos of on Monday or today actually. I like the pre VF in the circle on the pile side tangs that were made prior to Boker who started this tang marking around 1916. These knives were made in Newark NJ before the move by Boker, who had a controlling interest in VF, moved the company to New York. I think I have three pre VF in a circle knives and one with the VF in circle. I have as I recall before I dig them out an English Jack, a Jack with a smaller blade that incorporates a bottle opener, a Eureka Jack and a cattle knife with gold flake celluloid handles.

Yes it should, Roger the HJ looks to have hammered pins, and the cattle not, but both NJ knives. What would guess the age of these knives.

Harold, that would be hard to pin down.I think a good rule of thumb is hammered pins roughly 1920 and older and spun after.I think by 1920 most all companies were spinning pins. The punches appear to be made the same.I bet there aren't too many years between them.

Lots of great old knives posted so far. I have two jacks. No VF on either blade on the ebony handled one.

Were the knives with "VF" in a circle all made by Boker USA ?

I have 2 jacks; one kind of meh, and one pretty nice with a blade etch and half-stops. Some joker scrawled his initials on the shield but Herb took care of that for me. ::tu::

Nice knives shown by everyone. Is there even a thread in Knife Lore for VF? (He asks w/o checking) Anyway, it doesn't seem like many of these knives show up in posts, but there should be plenty out there.

Lloyd, is that 4th one down in your photos, the one with the cap lifter? If so, I think I have a brother to it.

I have just one, a Jack pattern, made during Boker ownership, due to "VF in a circle" pen blade stamp. The pen blade backspring is cracked.

There's some really nice VF knives being shown off here ::tu::

I only have one myself, it's a jack that's in decent shape overall. Just happened upon it on the bay. Not sure if the age but I'm just happy to have acquired one ::super_happy::

Did someone ask about the VF pliers knife? Here is mine a little bit worse for wear. The scout/utility is missing the reinforcing washers for the blades. The easy open had a broken secondary blade so I turned it into a screwdriver stub. The quill knife is stamped "Valley Falls" and is supposed to be a secondary line of knives from VF. First time I've ever seen a quill knife with wood handles.

I've always wanted one since I got into multitools 5-6 years ago--but they tend to be expensive. Rough Rider copied it, but it's hard to find, and said to be pretty poorly made.

Nice ones! If we all waited to collect "MINT" knives we'd be waiting a loooong time and would have many! I like a little patina. J.O'.

I obtained this one, my only one, very recently. It's a VALLEY FORGE, 2 blade, 3 3/16" closed, pocket knife. Each blade has a tang stamp, one more legible than the other. The "VF" in a double circle stamp, is on the handle on each side of the pocket knife. I gave it a cleaning, took some pictures and here it is.
