Anyone know of this Remington UMC Knife Tool?

I can't find any info on this Knife/tool I assume it some kind of depth cutter for fabric or leather anyone know? Year? Value??
Has Granger and company on handle both blade and gauge are adjustable. Remington UMC Stamped

I am the one suggesting the original poster take it to the Remington Collectors Forum - I was in no way questioning Dimitri's knowledge. I actually know exactly what this knife is used for and stated that from the beginning but sometimes you can lead a mule to water but can't make it drink.
