Found in the desert
Found this fellow while metal detecting in the desert around the Apache Junction area. Badly corroded. Anyone know anything about the history/origin ?

Check out this thread, you'll likely find a wire jack that is very similar to the one you found.DesertZone wrote: ↑Fri Nov 25, 2022 9:34 pm Found this fellow while metal detecting in the desert around the Apache Junction area. Badly corroded. Anyone know anything about the history/origin ?

George Schrade , Bridgeport Ct , wire jack knife , this has the hawkbill blade, the ones with a spear point blade came in a Boy Scout leather kit with a folding fork and small spoon.Has different tang stampings , some dated 9-21-26 and others 1-27-42.

Wow! Wonder how many decades that knife has been hanging out in the desert?
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

Those apparently first appeared around the end of WWI, and ran at least to the early 40s. I've got a spear point Geo. Schrade with a 1942 patent date. Incidentally, there was also a wire fork made, I don't know about spoons.

Re: Found in the desert
I think I saw that these wire jacks are being made now, as we speak, brand new by someone? The spoons were just generic contract spoons; they (George Schrade/Boker U.S.A.) did not make them.
Re: Found in the desert
Some of the "new" ones are actually mash-ups of old frames with newer blades like this one I have that has an older frame with a Queen DFC blade.tongueriver wrote: ↑Sat Nov 26, 2022 7:08 pm I think I saw that these wire jacks are being made now, as we speak, brand new by someone? Thanks to all who took the time to educate me. You are appreciated.

Just put that knife in a jar with some vinegar and it will clean up just like brand new ... maybe...
