Major WR Case Announcement

Zippo corporation announced today that they have sold their Case Division to a private group of investors. A spokesman for the group stated, “The company’s recent decision to move manufacturing operations to China and North Korea prompted us to step in. We will continue to manufacture Case knives in the U.S., … well except for a few in China. Our intent is to return this storied American company to its glory days when it was owned by JF Parker.” The NY Times is speculating that the mystery group is comprised of a dozen or so high-worth individuals who have made their fortunes selling cutlery on something called AAPK.

Given how Cold Steel and SOG got recently sold to GSI Outdoors, who promptly gutted the warranty, this honestly wouldn't surprise me--but it is April 1.

My worst Cases were made during the Parker era. I've noticed a ton made in the '80s tend to have backsprings that snap. My only good one, the 62031LHR hawkbill electrician's knife, is a badge-engineered Camillus.

I see fools posting similar “Case knives are made in China” crap on line already anyway, so some think it’s already happened. I bet a lot of folks have been expecting an announcement like that, which makes it a good April Fools Day joke.

The fact is Zippo ownership bought Case to prevent exactly that from happening, and continues their commitment to Made in U.S.A.
