New guy from Saskatchewan.

Post by Scale Military »

Hello everyone,
I'm a 18 yr. old who's brother is Willy Camaro. I help my Dad farm. My hobbies are building scale models and collecting army surplus, doing art and leatherwork.
I'm also interested in fixed blade knives, and interested in buying a fixed blade knife for using. What would be a good folding knife for carrying thats reasonable?
Would this this knife be a good buy?

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark ::handshake:: Welcome to AAPK! Glad you're here.
Sorry, can't help with any knowledge about the knife you linked to. No doubt someone will be along who can help you.
As for what's the best knife to carry and use...
Ask 100 people and you'll get 101 different answers.
Me, I prefer stockmans, the Case brand being a favorite.
Take a look at what others are carrying https://allaboutpocketknives.com/knife_ ... =2&t=17135 and see what strikes your fancy.

Welcome to AAPK. Glad to have you aboard. All I can tell you about that Puma is they make a good knife but I don't know what they're doing now. I know a real Puma (I'm not saying that knife is not real) can cost an arm and a leg. So many makers are getting their product out of Asia and some of them are very good and some are not so I can't speak to the current product. Looks good.

Thanks for the heads up. The knife looks good. I just hope it doesn't go too much. :D Just looked at it closer. The blade says on the other side that its made in Spain. How would it be? I wouldn't want to buy junk.

Can't help you on that one. I have no experience with knives made in Spain.

Hi Mark, I don't know what you prefer in a fixed blade but here is one on ebay that might interest you.

If you don't buy on ebay at least it is a good place to look for things that might interest you.

Good luck in your search for fixed and folding knives and welcome here. ::tu::

Yep, that W39 (wood handle) is a good 'un. My first sheath knife was an L39 (leather handle) and I still have it. It doesn't have a leather handle anymore. Dale fixed it up with some stag several years ago.

In regards to what I'm interested in, right now I'm interested in a fixed blade hunting/tactile type knife that I'll use if I'm outdoors. Also I'm interested in buying an reasonable priced (non-china) EDC pocket knife.

Would buying a scratch and dent pocket knife then fixing it be a good idea?

Depends on you access to tools and your skill level. Get one cheap enough it sure isn't going to hurt anything. Everybody's gotta start someplace. Have at it. There are plenty of learning threads and posts in the "Knife Creation, Modification, And Restoration Forums" ---► viewforum.php?f=48

You’ll have a difficult time finding a better quality factory-made fixed blade than that Western Black Beauty. All of the Western brand knives from that era have great steel too. Same for the older Western pocket knives.
