How Bad is the Canadian Smoke?

Post by 1967redrider »

Yesterday was bad here in Alexandria, but today is worse. Just wondering how bad the smoke from the Canadian wildfires is where you are?

This picture of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge doesn't really do it justice.

I can see Philly from my city.
Worst air quality since '65, I think they said.
Was real bad coming out of church last night, about 8:30.
A bit clearer today.
Take care and God bless,

Not good here in upstate Rochester NY area. Most people are staying indoors. My sinuses are not enjoying it at all.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Tuesday afternoon/evening last was the worst for this area of Litchfield County, Connecticut.
I have been out and walking in it every day and haven't been bothered by it.
It will be nice to have clean air again. In a few days.

It looked like fog here two days ago. I wish I had taken a picture of it. Never seen it look like this with the sun shining through the haze. No smell of smoke though. I’m in East Central Indiana so this is pretty wide spread. It is the beginning of an El Niño cycle and it looks like it starting off with a bang.

I'm in central Kentucky. Tuesday was the worst for me. My sinuses burned and my eyes watered all day. Yesterday we got light rain for several hours and that seemed to reduce the smoke. Today it's not been too bad, although I am limiting my outdoor time due to some serious respiratory issues.

Southestern NY here. Yesterday was the worst. It was a cloudless day but the smoke was so thick it was as if it was about to rain any minute, like a really cloudy day. The sun was barely visible as a pale orange orb. Everything had an orange tint to it. You could see and smell the smoke, which is pretty amazing considering how far away the fires are. Seemed as if they were right over the next hill.

Nothing here in north Texas, at least not yet. We’re a long way from Canada. We’ve at times in the past had smoke from fires in Mexico though, and some from fires in south and west Texas. Winds here are generally from a southerly direction, especially this time of year. So maybe we won’t get anything from the fires in Canada. ::shrug::

We have had two pretty bad days here due to the smoke. This morning it looked like fog when I first got up at 6. Here is a picture of the haze at 10 this morning. We’ve had air quality alerts here for the last two days. This morning it was closer to 250 on this scale, by 10 it was just under 200. Yesterday I drove 40 miles to the west and drove out of the haze and the temperature was 6 degrees hotter, when I came back I drove into the haze and the temp dropped 6 degrees. Remarkable.

It has been very hazy here (west central Indiana) for the last two days.
You can even smell it in the air when you first go outside.

It’s been pretty bad here in S.E. Michigan. Yesterday it actually smelled like a campfire outside and there was a thick haze in the sky. It’s a bit better today but still bad. I’ve been limiting my outdoor time.

Yesterday was the worst I have seen it. Amazing to me that it reaches all the way here, i.e. central Ky.
