It broke right where a screw goes through. I tried to glue it back together several times, but the glue wouldn't hold. So I took an ash limb and turned a new spindle on the lathe. If you look very closely, you can tell which one I replaced.

Slowly making upgrades to the shop. The corner of my shop where the sink is has always been unfinished, with pipes, insulation, conduit, and wires exposed. I bought a mirror at Wally world yesterday and finally used up those old fence pickets my buddy gave me. It is quick, rustic, and "thrown together" construction - my buddy calls it "Deer Lease Construction". But I think it looks better, and suits the shop / man cave.

And don't ask me why I have so many ice chests. ::shrug::

Unk, I’ll make a deal with you. I won’t ask why you have that many ice chests if you don’t ask me why I have more beer on hand than would fill all of them.

The real reason I went to Wally world yesterday was to re-stock the shop fridge with beer. Picked up the mirror while I was there.

Installed a bench stop today, to hold a board in place while using a plane. It screws down to retract just below the level of the bench when not in use so it is not in the way, then you can unscrew / extend it to jam the piece of wood when needed.

Nice. I’ve seen those before but never used one. I still use a 3/4” peg in a round hole.

Excellent job. I too appreciate using hand tools. Yes a planer is faster but there is nothing like using a good jack plane. I’d buy a Veritas plane if it wasn’t so expensive.

Thanks guys

I ordered the bench stops from Lee Valley tools (actually bought 3 of them). I will probably put another one beside the one I installed today so I can plane wider boards. Will also put one opposite my vise, so I can clamp smaller pieces with a bench dog in my vise.

They sell the Veritas planes, but I don't own one - too rich for my blood. Oscar, those Veritas planes must be nice, but I love my old Stanley Baileys and Miller Falls.

I also ordered a spear point blade from them for my Stanley 71 router plane. It came razor sharp.

My sister gave me an organizer a while back, and I transferred my hardware over to it recently. It was missing a couple of trays. And that was really bugging me.

Yes, I know. I have too much time on my hands.

After looking at what projects you guys have going or have completed, I decided it was time to get back into the shop. I have been wanting a W.R.Case dealer sales display, but I am too cheap to pay what is being asked now days for these items. So, it was time to jump in and see what I could do. Below are pictures of the finished project.

Unk, old catalogs and a home printer were used. Old School... copy, cut, and paste. It is good enough for me. Better quality signage can be made. There are programs that you can get to develop peel-off decals, but I am just too cheap to spend the money on the programs, printer and special paper.
All the wood is salvage... The sides, door, and header are Maple from a discarded dining room table that my neighbor had in the trash. The plywood also came from my neighbor's throw-aways. The plexiglass was found in a parking lot at Lowes. The felt paper, hinges and door lock were left over from a prior project. Being a retiree I try to pinch every penny and try to build or create what I can. Inspiration was from a picture I saw on Ebay ( https://www.ebay.com/itm/155600184776?n ... 7675.l2557 ).

Very creative, LB. Beautiful work.

I finally got all 4 shelves attached to the corner shelf unit I am making for my daughter. All I have left is just a little prep work, then stain and finish with poly. I haven't been in a hurry on this one - too many other projects kept interfering.

She sent me a picture - from Etsy I think - of what she wanted. So we winged it and made this to resemble what she wanted.

I finally got started on my plane till. I am cutting all the rabbets and dados with hand tools. It's very relaxing, and I get a little better/ faster with each one. There's definitely a learning curve. And I figured I ought to use the tools it's going to hold to build it.

I got the main shelf unit glued together tonight. Tomorrow I will work on the inclined plank that holds the planes. Then a couple of drawers.

Also included is a twisted lumber meme - which I experienced first hand.

Thanks Chris.

I made a little progress today. It's starting to look a little more like a plane till. The box is pine, but I bought some walnut to use for the cleats and the dividers. I will also do the drawer fronts in walnut.

Excellent work! I like the contrast of the two types of wood used. Collecting and using old tools is a disease. I bet you outgrow the 'till' in no time. Keep posting your progress and the finished product.

Thanks LB! Yes, I have been addicted to collecting tools since I took woodshop in 7th grade. That was around 1974.

I got the planes situated and the dividers as well as the cleats cut and attached today. I installed the dividers with a brad nailer, and the cleats are screwed in so that I can easily re-arrange things later if I want to. I was going right to left, starting with the big No. 8 plane. As I slowly neared the left side, I could see that I was going to have an awkward-sized narrow gap on the left side. I didn't do any math to figure out the spacing because - you know - that would require mathing.

Then I remembered my little bitty Stanley No. 75. A little bull-nosed rabbet plane - and a handy little bugger. Wouldn't ya know - it fit right into the awkward little gap and made it look like I planned it all along.

And I have already outgrown this till. I have a handful of planes that will have to sit on the shelf - if they will fit. I hope I don't pull my wall down with this load of cast iron hanging off it! :D
