If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Re: YOUR USER NAME

Post by Sharpnshinyknives »

Interesting thread. I hadn’t seen this one till now. When I joined I was told there were a lot of preachers or ex preachers on here. I pastored for 29 years part time and had a full time job that whole time so I worked 7 days a week. I’m retired from both now.
My user name came from a few things coming together. I use to love detailing my cars and I would use the phrase “bright n shiny” when I was done. When I bought my first knife collection, I spent months cleaning and shining every knife in that 462 piece collection. When it came time to sell it on Ebay, I had to choose a username and my wife thought up sharpnshinyknives. She claims that she is the sharp in Sharpnshinyknives, and I suppose that’s true. She has an IQ of 142, graduated 1st in her high school class and summa w/ a 4.0 grade average from college. She also went to the national spelling bee in Washington DC when she was in junior high, twice. She is tough to beat playing Scrabble, so when I win on occasion (very little occasion), I get to gloat a little.
She always says that I am the shiny in Sharpnshinyknives, that’s an obvious reference to my bald head. I think it’s a put down, but I’m not sharp enough to know for sure?

Good story! I wonder what it is about preacher's and knives? Gotta be a connection there somewhere!

Well, Mark, I think it is pretty obvious that in someone as bright as your wife selecting you as her mate, that redounds to your credit.

My wife came up with the name from a picture I drew in college.I took an art class and the project was to take an ordinary everyday item and draw a picture of it in an unusual or extraordinary setting.I had only been collecting knives for a year and what better item to draw but a pocketknife.Notice the Gnome Cut Co tang stamp.

Straw hats are what I started wearing to keep me shaded. I have since graduated to felt or palm.

I like the hat! Brand? Make? Model?
Sweet little side-arm, too.

Thank you.

Sunbody Hats

https://www.sunbody.com/

I buy them flat brimmed and uncreased so I can crease them to the Fedora shape I prefer. Usually buy 3-4 at a time and replace themas they wear out. The two oldest stay at the back door. The oldest is my yard hat, next is my “meeting customers” hat and at the front door is the one with the hatband. I have a horsehair hatband that has graced maybe 10-12 hats.

And, I introduced that revolver in the thread as you requested.

Thank you. In winter, I wear a felt hat of the same general size and shape. I usually start with a western hat,Stetson, Resistol, or similar a get the steamer going. It takes a while but they come out nice.

I've had a Bluegrass band called Windy Ridge since 1972. When I got my e-mail account, Windy Ridge was taken so I opted for Ridgegrass. WR is based in Maryland. There's another one somewhere else. I see them on You Tube but I don't know them at all or when they started. Windy Ridge was the road our first fiddle player, Jude Restivo, (a.k.a. Judd Hawkins) lived on. J.O'.

It's a dadgummed shame ole T.J. ain't still suckin' air. Tom was a guitar plucker in a Bluegrass band down in the Covington KY area. Unfortunately we lost him to dementia a few years back. He was a great person and a heck of a guitar picker. You two would have gotten on just fine.
