Great re-do on that "Thunderstick"! My son had one(not sure of the manufacturer)that he tried using for hunting but never saw a deer when he was out with it.All the deer congregate inside the city limits here during hunting season. He sold it off awhile ago. I never got into them;I'm more of a shotgun person. My left hand Remington 1100 is my favorite.Must have run 10,000 rounds through it with nary a problem.Trap shooting twice a week for four years and practice another couple days.Byrd wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 7:09 pm Sorry for the poor cellphone pictures bit it's dreary in Kansas!
An almost complete project a 1977 Invest Arms .54 cal percussion rifle I traded for a while back. It was in poor shape so a redo was in order.
I browned the barrel, swapped the adjustable sights for fixed, glass beded the tang and stripped the glossy factory finish and used many coats of BLO as a finish. Now when the weather is decent I'll need to sight it in. I usually sight my muzzies in at 75 yards cause that's as far as I can see!

I've been considering getting a black powder revolver, but the hassle of getting a handgun permit is unbelievable.
I may do someday.

Thanks gentleman! Steve...a permit for a black powder revolver? I'm sorry to hear that! I just ordered one last week and it'll be delivered to my house! The ATF doesn't classify them as guns but rather antiques wether they are old or new. I guess it depends on the jurisdiction you live in.

Since the recent shortages I've been shooting them more because can cast my own balls and still get powder and caps for them. I've been shooting them since the 70's and have hunted deer ( successfully) with them. They are kind of addicting though... I've got an 1860 Army revolver on order that should be here shortly.
You should investigate them it'll add a whole new dimension to your shooting. It's kind of a niche hobby though because most retailers just sell stuff for inlines. The internet it your friend!

In NY, you can buy all the black powder handguns you want with no permit, but if you also possess the powder, projectiles and caps to make them fire, you need a permit.
I have used an Armsport Hawken for the special muzzle-loader season for deer hunting since the 1980's. I later purchased a 12ga. SxS black powder shotgun, a Pedersoli Three-band Enfield rifled-musket, and an Uberti 1861 Navy revolver. I think black powder arms are a lot of fun.

My dad just told all the guys who hunt our property that he wants to see their NRA memberships before he'll sign a permission slip for them this year.
Sorry to hear about your black powder issues in NJ, Steve. Here, all of that can be mailed right to your house, no problem. Shipping on BP and percussion caps can be pricey, but I wait until places like Midway USA or Sportsman's Guide are doing free shipping.

It's not just black powder. A firearms permit must be purchased for any long gun, including BB and pellet. That permit is a one-time deal, good for life for as many rifles you want. A separate permit must be purchased for EACH INDIVIDUAL handgun, good for only 90 days - use or lose.1967redrider wrote: ↑Mon Jan 11, 2021 12:51 am

I don't know what else our authorities will come up with. As long as there is a permit to carry a weapon, I use it. I do not deny myself carrying weapons, I purchase accessories for the care of weapons and I am comfortable wearing it. How do you feel about special belts? I took a Condor Cobra Gun Belt for myself - an expensive pleasure, but the quality is just super! I can tell you to look at different options for belts here https://homemakerguide.com/best-gun-belt/ . Still, with a special belt it is more convenient to hook on than a regular one.

We have an anti-gun executive branch and an anti-gun majority in the legislative branch. Like the NRA or not, it's the biggest/strongest organization we have to help fight for our constitutional Second Amendment rights!
Their recent difficulties have turned a lot of people away, but that will hopefully convince them to clean house and get their act together, and fast. A year's membership is about the same as the cost of a single box of premium ammunition for your rifle or pistol. I figure if you're not willing to give that much in an attempt to keep your rights, you must not care too much about them...

Obviously the Dems and mainstream media (that’s redundant) attacks on the NRA are working on some who should know better. The NRA has been and continues to be the most effective organization fighting for Second Amendment rights against the onslaught of baseless attacks from leftist totalitarian politicians and their media sycophants. And that’s exactly why the left hates them.
You can believe the anti-gun, anti-NRA rhetoric and lose your rights, or support them and fight. It’s not at all hard to see their plan - control the government, hype up any and every possible event to create anti-gun hysteria amongst the uneducated, inattentive masses. We’ve seen this drill before - they did it to “switchblade” knives and 80 years later we are still governed by the ridiculous laws they passed in the midst of that fake news hysteria,
The recent D.C. Capitol riot, by as-yet-to-be determined actors (if you believe they were Trump supporters you haven’t been paying attention), rumored upcoming state-capitol demonstrations, etc. We already see the same Democrat politicians who refused to take action to stop ongoing BLM and ANTIFA riots, looting, arson, assaults and murders in their state jurisdictions, have preemptively called out the National Guard this week. And done so to great media fanfare. Yet when Trump asked them to call out the National Guard to stop the summer-long riots in their cities, they called him a Nazi and said the riots were “social justice”. Where I come from it’s called crime.
But it’s all part of the build up to their orchestrated plan for passing the already filed legislation requiring firearms registration and ammunition restrictions. WAKE UP PEOPLE - we’re being played yet again!

The other evening one of the local news stations out of Panama City proudly announced the NRA was about to go "belly up". They reported the NRA is bankrupt, blah, blah, blah... The liberal spin on the Ch. 11 reorganization, because of the agenda-ed actions the Attorney general of NY, was not part of the story. Imagine that.
This type of reporting gives false information to the general public and furthers Biden's promise to "beat the NRA". The NRA has been on the front lines of the battle for the life of the 2nd Amendment for as long as I have been a member and I'm sure years before also. I became an annual member sometime in the '60's and a Life Member on May 27, 1971 and have never regretted supporting them and being informed of what is happening in the political arena concerning my 2nd Amendment rights!
