My brother took these two photos of the same eagle, on different days. Both of those shoots are within 50 yards of the back patio using a zoom lens. The lighting up here really plays a big part in how your photos will come out. It can be a real challenge somedays.

I was out yesterday in my Kayak. It was a very nice autumn day, other than being unseasonably hot. The fall wild flowers are really blooming and I had to take some detours down little back roads where I could stop admire the flowers without getting run over. Just a beautiful time of year except for the heat.

For those of you that like to fish, especially those in The South, check out the YouTube videos of Richard Gene, The Fishing Machine.

He has to be one of the most successful and prolific fishermen I have ever seen.

He has fished all his life.

He fishes all kinds of water, in all weather for many different species.

You will learn a lot just by listening to him talk.

Mostly catch and release, but if his wife says so, he takes some home for dinner.

He is a bit strange in his behavior at times and has an alter-ego named Elmo that shows up frequently.

Never curses.

He's in Alabama and I know exactly where he is fishing in this particular video.



I realize there is quite a bit of editing done to these videos. He did say it was an hour and a half before he caught that first fish.

Being early spring over here, these little critters are coming out of hibernation. They are Alpine or Mountain Copperheads, very prevalent in the high country as the name would suggest. Very aggressive at this time of the year, coming out of hibernation, beautiful looking snakes, growing to about 2-3 feet long. I used to see plenty of them when i used to hunt in the high country. Was advised to wear garters by the local Forest Ranger, i took his advise immediately.Hope you all have a good weekend.

Yes my friend very venomous. We have 9 out of the top 10 venomous snakes in the world. But you are right, they are very beautiful snakes, when you see them in the bush, they are actually mesmerizing. Just a useless bit of information, the biggest cause of dog death in Australia-snake bite.

Most was oak, Water Oak I believe.

This is a snake that " I WOUN'T COME WITHIN A MILE OF". One of your rattlers, i would have a heart attack if i ran into one of these.

Last night we had Moose Meatloaf and with the ingrediency there was no gamey taste, just good meat. This morning we went to town for a few things and then just looked around the area. If it's not a state highway or main road in town, it doesn't get paved and out here in this weather it's really better. They do keep the gravel roads leveled and packed. If you want surfaced driveways, do it yourself, most people do not.

Scott, I've found water oak to be a little stringy when trying to split it. Hackberry is worse. Does it seem so to you?

I'm no wood expert by far....I know Sweet Gum and Sycamore, and Sugarberry are brutal to split. This was close to seasoned so It didn't take much
effort to spilt!!

Fantastic looking country, you must feel very lucky to be in such a beautiful part of your country. I would like to try moose meatloaf, looks good.

This may not be National Geographic stuff, but it was exciting to me. Watch this beautiful eagle that was right off our patio at the river bank. It doesn't get much better than this.

I was hoping to see some wildlife today, but all we saw was a Moose sign, an old homesteaders cabin and the end of the highway as it turned into a pipeline access road for the upper Kenai peninsula. The day wasn't a bust, I found 5 knives, 3 hats, and a rattlesnake hatband with rattler. Not start in with me about what I said about snakes the other day. There is no danger in a hatband.
