Re: Outdoorsman Thread
When I was a kid, I jumped off the tractor and whacked a prairie rattler with a 12 inch crescent wrench. Not smart, but I got away with it. I have a friend who kills rattlers who don't rattle but leaves the ones who do. I don't kill anything anymore unless I am going to eat it, and then only reluctantly and with great respect.doglegg wrote:Waukonda wrote:As far as discretion goes, I will say that the "zoom" feature can come in mighty handy at times!

Re: Outdoorsman Thread
A crescent wrench??? That's a great story! I think I would have to have about a 3 foot pipe wrench before I would attack a rattler.

Personally, I'd like a 50 foot clear path in a different direction.

Re: Outdoorsman Thread
FRJ, I too was wondering what rifle that might be? Can't hardly see enough of it to even guess but I would feel good guessing that it might be a Winchester 1905, 1907 or 1910. The steel cap on the forend with the activating rod sticking out is what I'm basing my guess on. Those 3 models were all auto loaders and had from .32 Win & .35 Win in the '05, the '07 was a.351 Win & the '10 was a 401 Win. My wife's uncle had a 1907 in .351 that made me drool.

We had no rain but did have a rainbow this evening.
Re: Outdoorsman Thread
Treefarmer, you've got a better grasp of that rifle than me. I didn't know of those three models and all the calibers available.
There was a rifle like that in our house many years ago that was a 35 Remington. The "activating rod" was spiraled.

First stop the Ulu factory in Anchorage. Its was a fun place to be and watch them making the knives and talking to the employees. I will be putting more pic's on my Facebook page David Roberts. I already have over 200 pic's so it's going to take time to weed through them and upload them.

Great pic's of Seattle from the air dlr. My son lives up there and I've made that approach several times. Beautiful country. And Alaska, I've never been there. The Ulu factory looks interesting. Looking forward to more pic's.
Re: Outdoorsman Thread
Nice pics! I had 7 or 8 hours to kill a few years ago in Anchorage at the tail end of a cruise, now I know how I SHOULD have spent that time haha! Enjoy yourself.

Re: Outdoorsman Thread
Can't compete with those great pictures of Alaska but we do have a healthy Golden Orb spider family in the front of the house. For some reason she moved for a week or so up into a space between two Live Oak branches about 15' in the air, now she has rebuilt her web closer to the ground. Her web is built where a yard spot light shines through it and seem to be a plus for her catching flying bugs at night. Look at about 2 O'clock in the picture and you can see the tiny male Golden Orb spider. (Click on the picture to enlarge.)

Cool that you got husband and wife Philip.
Re: Outdoorsman Thread
Treefarmer, we have those here in Texas, too. I usually manage to walk through one of their webs when I am taking the trash out to the curb at night. I hope none of my neighbors are catching on their security cameras the wild impromptu dance that I do after I walk through a web.
