Been cold here the last couple weeks it wants to get down to 0 degree after sunset nothing serious for the area back in late 90's it went to 0 degree and stayed there all winter septic systems froze up all over this county I had a heat element burn out in my well pit and cracked my pump housing try playing with a busted pump when it's below 0 not any fun...my drop cords are plugged in and won't unplug those lights till the end of the month...

I was driving last evening in the single digit temps with 10" to 12" of snow on the ground. As I drove by a coal mine,I was looking over and watching the coal come from underground via a conveyor belt. I thought to myself how this country should never have to go through energy shortages and rolling blackouts. We have billions of tons of coal in reserve, the most reliable energy source around. Technological improvements have reduced emissions from power plants by nearly 50%, reclamation returns the land that is mined back to a usable state. Coal is a win win situation.

Another cold day in North Texas. They are forecasting that we will get above freezing
and stay there sometime tomorrow and by Monday we could have a daytime high of
61 degrees. Now that's more to my liking!

Temperature is up to 21 degrees here. Our electricity which has been on a rolling blackout status (15 minutes an hour: since Monday morning) went off yesterday afternoon and stayed off. About 1 AM this morning it came on again and we were figuring on more off and on rolling black out. But so far it has stayed on since then. ::pray::

The temperature inside the house was down to 52 degrees and continuing to drop gradually since the heat being on only 15 minutes an hour was losing ground. We were getting accustomed to the drill. Making a list of what we needed to get done the next time the power came on for 15 minutes before plunging us back into cold darkness! Make a pot of coffee. Heat a can of soup, etc.

We spent 45 minutes an hour like the Amish and 15 minutes an hour like a NASCAR pit crew!

Now as I'm typing this post we got a text message that we are under a "boil water" alert. Seems the chlorination apparatus at the water department froze up and failed. At least we have water - some places don't because the pumps froze.

I gathered up 4 five gallon buckets of snow yesterday (20 gallons of snow), and melted it down into 5 gallons of water. We then ran it through a coffee filter, and then boiled it for 5 minutes. Then dumped it all back into a 5 gallon bucket. I have a little camp shower with a rechargeable battery. The wife and I were able to take our first shower in 4 days.

The power finally stayed on all night last night, and we were finally able to get the whole house warmed up. We have a generator we were using during the rolling blackouts, so we were able to heat one small room, where we stayed. One thing we should have done is stored more water. Won't make that mistake again. We had stored some, but not a weeks worth. The water went off Monday evening and is still out, and no ETA on when it will be back on.

For perspective, It got down to -2 here, the second coldest on record for this area (it also got down to -2 in 1949), and the coldest in my lifetime, and I will be 60 this year. The only time it has gotten colder here was -8 in 1899, 122 years ago.

All in all, we are much luckier than a lot of folks. We were able to stay warm. Hopefully our water pipes won't be damaged when they get the water back on.

The snow is still on the ground, but the good news is it's forecasted be around 37 degrees today.
By next week we should see temps in the middle to upper 60's. ::shrug::

I’m hearing stories on the news about people getting exorbitant electric bills. Curious to see what ours will be, especially since during this week the power has been off more than it’s been on! ::facepalm::

Current temperature here is a balmy 71 degrees, sunny with a few scattered clouds. Just last Tuesday it was 3 below zero. Ain't Texas wonderful?!!

Yup Ken, East Central Saskatchewan has gone from frozen Tundra, to a perpetual heat wave!
Above freezing this lovely afternoon, and tomorrow calling for +4*C.
Now this is what I can live with, bring it!

We got in on the tail end of the big storm that dumped a LOT of snow in areas south and west of here. About 2-3 inches of heavy wet stuff here. Some of those poor people near Cheyenne WY got 25-30 inches. WOW !! This is our second snow on the robins this season.
