Bright and sunny now. At 6 AM 6 inches of fresh cold snow to remove. What's better than this? ::tu::

It started raining here in Sioux Falls early this morning with 6 tenths of an inch falling and the temp at 32, coating most everything with ice. Now the temp has fallen one degree and it is snowing heavily. This is a very large system and it extends all the way down to Texas. Hope the ice on the power lines doesn't lead to problems.

Really bizarre weather in South Dakota over the past few days. Here in the southeastern part we had a lot of snow on the ground, then Wednesday it rained 1.75 inches and was 35 degrees. This had the effect of dumping a lot of water on top of frozen ground, which melted a lot of the snow and cause a lot of flooding problems for a lot of people. Bridges were washed out, basements flooded, and a lot of the main streets were even closed right in Sioux Falls. Further west in the southwestern part of the state there was a lot of snow as the temp. was colder there. This picture was on our local news of a rancher out near Kyle SD digging out some of his animals that got buried.

Wow, that is wild! Still knee deep to waist deep snow here on the homestead, temps hovering around 38 in the day and 15 at night. Good temps to help melt the snow, last thing we need is rain and higher temps. Stay safe folks

It was 75 degrees and sunny in Sioux Falls yesterday, BUT coming in the next couple of days is a huge storm which is expected to bring heavy rain and/or snow depending on local temps. We had a real big storm like this last year on this same week in April. We could get 10-15 inches of snow, winds, and mid twenties degree wise. I sincerely hope they are wrong again about this one.

That storm is suppose to give us around a foot and two feet to our south. I'm hoping neither one of us get nailed. It's been a long winter. ____Dave

Southern Minnesota is getting nailed with heavy snow and high winds. Freeways South of the Twin Cities are closed. Up here we are just getting wind and the snow is suppose to arrive tomorrow afternoon. Most all the schools have already canceled for tomorrow. We are counting on winds off Lake Superior to keep much of this mess to our South. I'm not planning on going anywhere until maybe Saturday.____Dave

We are having an assortment of types of precipitation in Sioux Falls. Rain, freezing rain, snow, and ice pellets have all appeared as the temp goes up and down. It is 28 degrees now with 35 mph winds. So far maybe 2-3 inches of snow. Interstate highways are closed here as are the schools. There are some scattered power outages also. Should be better by noon tomorrow.

Not good here in eastern SD. The local electric utility is reporting that there are thousands of people out of power, 27 electrical substations are out of power, there are about 200 power poles snapped off from ice and snow load. In SW Minnesota there is about another 150 poles down. The crews working on restoring power will be stopping for the night at 8:30 this evening, so if you dont have power by then it will not be on till at least tomorrow. Our neighborhood has been fortunate in that we still have power on and we are keeping our fingers crossed. Can you imagine how long it would take to replace 200 power poles? Crews are coming here from other parts of the country to assist.

Northern Minnesota didn't get the snow amounts they predicted but we sure got the wind and the snow we got was pretty much horizontal blowing snow, so it's a little hard to measure how much we did get. I'm guessing about 3 inches. I was loading 1X8X8ft. boards today before the snow started, and they were blowing off my cart faster that I could grab them. My wife had to hold them down as I loaded them into our vehicle to keep them from blowing away. The wind was sustained at over 30 MPH with gusts up to 65 MPH. We got home before the snow got close to white-out. Our power stayed on but some trees are down. Hopefully nothing goes down on power lines tonight. The snow has pretty much stopped but the wind is still howling. ____Dave

The snow from last weeks blizzard is gone now, and it is suppose to get to 78 degrees tomorrow, so I am really going to stick my neck out and put the snow shovels away tomorrow!

Winter just won't give up here. Another couple of inches of snow overnight and 32 degrees. Hopefully it will melt fast, the lawn is green and will need to be mowed soon.

may 8th and we are under a Winter Storm warning. So far it's just what 6 months ago we would call a pretty snowfall. We may have 5 or 6 inches by morning and should melt by tomorrow night. ___Dave

The May 8th storm gave a us about a foot of wet snow. Then we had a week of beautiful Tee shirt weather, although every day started out around 35 degrees, but warmed up with the sunshine. Today, May 19, it snowed fairly hard almost all day. Thankfully this time the ground was warm enough that it melted as fast as it fell. Our lakes and streams are full.___Dave
