Ornithology (Bird) Thread
Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
Nice flock of turkeys, Homer. Turkeys are increasingly common in my area, but so far none have visited my back yard.
Jeff - your comment about never having seen an owl made me stop and think a bit. I have seen several owls in my life, but certainly less than one per year. And I have spent most of my life working and playing outdoors. Very elusive birds, the owls.

Yes those are Juncos. Nice shots. My male and female Cardinals come together each day. I trust they will not be among the 20% of Cardinals that get divorced in the Spring.
Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
QS, I was unaware of the spring divorce rate among cardinals. These two were together last year so hopefully they will stick.

Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
I am confident that my two have twice rasised families here and in the Spring will be the third. My confidence is based on the fact that this pair is here year round. They never leave.
Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
Thanks Steve.
QS, these two are permanent residers as well. They hang together the year round except when they have little ones.

Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
Very nice Junco and Cardinal photos, Dogleg. No Juncos in my back yard so far this year.

Thanks Mel. Some years alot come and some years almost none.
Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
Phone photos are not the best but. Cardinal waiting patiently in the magnolia for me to put some food out.
Crows and others enjoying the fruits of my labor.
Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
Quite a contrast in size BH. Is the top one a Carolina wren?
Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
Nice selection of birds, Homer - Wrens to Turkeys and in between stuff too!
I have a pretty good range of birds in my garden this week. Here is a little House Wren: they are actually quite unusual in my yard. Then there are the House Finches like this pair. Plenty of House Finches all year in my area. And Tufted Titmice. Titmice are one of my favorite birds. Fairly vocal and very active. In this photo Titmouse and Finch are munching on black oil Sunflower seed.

Good catch on the titmouse, Mel.
Up here they're grab and gone before I can get them in view finder.

Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
Last bird that sat long enough to have his picture made on this Dog fennel stem was an Eastern Phoebe that y'all helped identify. Today I believe this one needs no research, an Eastern Bluebird.

Great pic Scott.
Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
Thanks for the comments, fellows.
Nicely posed hawk photo, Scott. How does the park get them to sit on the sign like that?
Bluebirds are pretty active in my neighborhood right now, Treefarmer. They seem to think it is spring!
