A female cardinal, a little dark eyed Junco and a White Wing Dove at the feeder. The White Wings have migrated up here from south Texas in the last 15 to 20 years. Bigger than regular morning doves and most are bullies as well. Identifiable by the white line of feathers along their lower wing.

Thanks Longblade. I just try to get high enough so that the dogs wet nose and tongue prints don't show.LongBlade wrote:Great shots doglegg ... Extremely clear and well focused photos!! Windex ?

Doc it is a Nikon Coolpix 510. Basically a point and shoot camera with a built in telephoto. I'm not much on f stops and shutter speed so point and shoot is perfect for me. It's 42 power optical zoom, they have stronger ones now but that was the most when I was buying. I sure like it. Thanks.Doc B wrote:Doglegg...Another thumbs...on those fine shots Do you have a telephoto lens?doglegg wrote:A female cardinal, a little dark eyed Junco and a White Wing Dove at the feeder. Cool photos, Steve and Doglegg. Those White Wing Doves made it to my area in coastal Alabama a few years ago. I still remember the first one I ever saw in this state, about twenty years ago. Now they are common. I think they are displacing the Mourning Doves in my neighborhood. Seems like I see more White Wings and fewer Mourning Doves as time passes.

Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
Thanks Dinadan, in my younger day I never saw a white wing as they were just a south Texas bird but now they are everywhere around here. And their call is a little different, easy to identify when you hear one.
Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
I agree about the different call. To me, the White Wing's call is a little more like an owl's hoot. Yesterday we finally had a sunny spring day and the doves were calling a lot around my place.

Got up this morning headed to the coffee pot and realized that during the night we had been invaded by a Banana Duck! It didn't hang around very long.

Ya know Floyd.. I got the "expectant father" feeling going on with these two Eagles. After they lost their nest and eggs last yr in a bad wind storm.. Every time the wind blows I have been holding my breath this yr..
Me/wife are looking forward to watching their adventure, hoping the other 2 eggs hatch and they all grow up to healthy Eagles!!!
Thanks Ray and will do!!!

This fellow was hanging around the feeder this morning. Some folks cut off the head when they take pictures, I seem to cut off the tail.
Couldn't quiet capture the brilliance of his color.
