Australian fires

Post by tongueriver »

My heart goes out to our friends in Australia. I am not touching the politics. I am just wanting to show my support for the folk who are dealing with the drought and the fires.

Thanks for your kind words. I am not in the fire area, but it has had devastating effects for those effected. And thanks for keeping politics out of it, the sniping has already started between point scoring political parties which i find absolutely disgusting. So once again thank you for your post. ::handshake::

::tu:: ::tu:: ::tu:: Thanks Calvin... they don't call this place "the big brown land" for nothing

Several hundred homes lost and the most disturbing thing is many of these fires have been deliberately lit.

That is quite a photo, beautiful in an artistic sense, but at the same time, very sobering. Best wishes to you, and hoping for an end to the destruction.

Just heard an update on the midday news and they have found the body of another person in NSW, takes the toll to 4. Very, Very sad, especially as "Brumby" said, a lot of these look like been deliberately lit.

Wow that's terrible I for one hope anyone caught is prosecuted to the fullest extent. Fire has got to be the worse way to die that I can imagine. Seems politics always rears it ugly head in any disaster. Hopeful that things improve for all in harm's way. ::handshake::

cudgee and Brumbydownunder I'm glad you guys are okay. My prayers are with those that have lost loved ones. Property can be replaced but the ones we love and care for are what counts. And yes I hope those responsible are caught and dealt with very harshly.

My sympathies, fellas!
We get bad fires in the interior of the province every year. Locally, every once in a while Burns Bog goes up. I’m just waiting for the North Shore mountains to take off. The last time that happened, in 1886, Vancouver burned down. Well, what there was of it at the time.
Fire scares the heck out of me. Stay safe, don’t take chances and keep up updated. The fires, along with California, are much in the news here.

Australia is definitely in my thoughts and prayers. Not long ago the news reported that one of the great California fires was deliberately set and the individual was caught. These arsons deserve a special kind of punishment, in this life or the next.

Over here we have a reputation for everyone pitching in and helping when disaster strikes, but i have no doubt it is a world wide thing. The people on AAPK reaffirm my belief, the concern and wishes from all of you on the forum is heartwarming, and makes getting through any sort of tragedy just that little bit easier. Thanks for all your posts and concern. Hope you all have a good weekend.

Jerry there's no problems with fires here. The only place it could burn here is along the hills. With the drought the plains areas don't have a blade of grass on them, it's a bit like a moonscape. We get a dust storm at least once a week. Two this week.We have a drought around every ten years .Than a extra big one which turns up around every forty years.
Thanks for worrying about us.

I just saw a TV news report about the American C-130 that crashed helping to fight the fires. It's hard to believe that we're now into January and those fires are still raging on. Everyone take a moment today and pray for the people of Australia, the families of the C-130 crew and that these fires will be extinguished very soon.

You're right on David with the prayers. January however is mid-summer in Australia so unfortunately the weather isn't likely to provide sustained relief. All the more reason prayers are needed.

The C-130 is not used in the U.S. for fighting wildfires, the wings have literally fallen off in flight. Extremely sad, one pilot was from Montana. The company was a Canadian firm based in the US, which have different rules. My mothers husband is a Senior Pilot for Erickson Tankers, they have flown their MD 87 over to Australia and will be based out of Perth. 35,000 gallons of fuel used and three stops for fuel to get there. Prayers for everyone involved.

The wings fell off a C-130??? Hmmmm. I've flown in those once or thrice. I thought they were a pretty good airplane. A real workhorse.
