True story - while in Germany we sent this young Airman around to different shops asking if they had a metric crescent wrench.
Kinda like in the scouts when we would send the new kid around to different camps for some non-shriveling bacon grease.

We used to do the same thing onboard the ship for any new young-buck seaman recruit who checked on board. We would:Steve Warden wrote: ↑Sun May 17, 2020 8:09 pm True story - while in Germany we sent this young Airman around to different shops asking if they had a metric crescent wrench.

- Send them to the forward Bos'un locker for 10 feet of chow line.
- Send them to the engine room for a #10 can of steam
- Send them down to the boiler room (older ships) for a BT punch. (BT's were Boiler techs back in the day...and every BT knew that when a newbie would come down and ask for a BT punch, they would get punched in the arm by the BT) It wouldn't be so hard to injure them.
It was all good fun back in the day...but now, no way could someone do this...it's now called 'hazing'. *sigh*

In my Scouting days we sent the tenderfeet around to other camps to see if they had a “left-handed smoke sifter” (to direct the campfire smoke away from where us older Scouts were sitting).Kinda like in the scouts when we would send the new kid around to different camps for some non-shriveling bacon grease.

Best thread ever, laughing my butt off!

On the freight dock we would send the new guys to the shop to get a trailer stretcher.
The forklift drivers would send them to the shop for a can of 'beep' for their horns.

Re: Not Quite Sure What To Call These
The above Home Depot meme where the caption says you can find the product in the "blinker fluid aisle", it reminded me of this video. One of my pet peeves is people not using their turn signal when turning ...and I have actually stated to people that; "you paid thousands of dollars for your vehicle and didn't get any 'blinker fluid' with it?" The look on their face is hilarious. Most ask what I'm talking about, and I go into this diatribe about their blinker fluid being low or they're out of it and they need to fill it back up. I then tell them they should always use their turn signals to indicate their intentions. At this point, I smile and walk away...or, drive away. I've had fun with it, but I don't let it get out of hand.
