Re: "Diecast Collecting"
Yup mate, If I can remember correctly, Maisto has their own factory in China.
Think it's like Epiphone/Gibson, Squier/Fender. They built their own factory, to directly control all production.
And you can see it in the final products.
It's not your generic "china" junk by any stretch of the imagination.
Unlike another brand I'm highly familiar with...

Here's a Corgi Range Rover in RAC Motoring Assistance colors. While the tooling dates back to 1984, this issue is dated 1999, and is made in China, not England. Meaning, it was when a consortium of collectors had purchased the brand from Mattel, and before Hornby bought the brand.
Coincidentally, there is an older RAC set from the '70s-80s that also includes this same casting, in the old white/blue colors, with a gumball light on the front of the roof, as opposed to a light bar on the rear.
It's got plenty of opening parts--front doors, and both sections of the rear gate.

Re: "Diecast Collecting"
SIKU is a favorite brand of mine as they are heavy, high-quality, very accurate in their details, and most importantly, durable. While high-detail, they are sold as toys, not high-end collectible models. The materials used for things like mirrors hold up to occasional mishandling. I actually had a 1/32 Deutz tractor roll off a shelf and fall ten feet to the floor, and the worst that happened was a slightly bent exhaust stack that easily bent back straight. Problem is that due to the passage of CIPSA, which supposedly was to keep the poor-quality off-brand lead-painted Chinese toys out of the US market, it instead shut down dozens of small hobby retailers selling European toys that met their more stringent standards.
SIKU 2711 Freightliner Coronado/Vulcan V-100 Wrecker. From what I'm seeing, they only made it a year or two. There are a lot on eBay. However, most seem to come from Chinese sellers, and are probably bootlegs. Mine was purchased as a part of an "estate lot" of high-end model trucks from the '80s-present, and thus I presume it is authentic. It's a big truck--about a foot long and close to three pounds. And it's just 1/55 scale!
I have a family member who has grown his small towing company in 15 years time from two old trucks--a Chevy-based Holmes 600 and a Ford rollback ran out of the garage of the mechanic he worked for, to six (four rollbacks, two medium duty wreckers)and his own business that includes a service garage. We've both watched the short-lived Wrecked on the Speed Channel, and the surprisingly long-lived Highway Thru Hell and Heavy Rescue 401 that are Discovery Canada shows, but run in the US on the Weather Channel. About the time he started his business, I started collecting model tow trucks, and giving him the occasional older duplicate (he has two right now). I like to focus on vintage Holmes units with two booms, but there are several different types in my collection. This is the centerpiece. It's the biggest, most detailed, and most functional in the collection.
The V-100 is built for heavy work, and is rated for 50 Tons. Around here, the biggest wreckers in regular use are largely vintage Holmes units from the '70s and '80s (with the bigger units, and rotators being mostly from out of the area) and the largest, a 1801 (coincidentally ran out of a garage right below me), just a 45 Ton. Even those with newer units tend to keep an old Holmes around, as their mechanical (coupled by gearbox to PTO on truck) winches out-pull modern hydraulic-powered ones.
https://www.millerind.com/products/heav ... lcan-v-100
The SIKU model features plenty of true-to-scale features:
Opening hood on truck
Boom raises/lower
Boom extends
Integrated Wheel Lift raises/lowers
Underreach extends
Twin winches, in accurate positions (one behind the other, each with about a foot of cable and metal hooks on the end
Extending spades/stablizers
It is so realistic, that properly rigged, it can right a similarly-scaled truck tipped over on its side.

They're supposed to have a shipper that includes cards eligible for a mail-in Ford Raptor. I'm sure we'll get that shipper--probably in June or July. My store still has most of an Easter shipper.Just Plain Dave wrote: ↑Sat Apr 10, 2021 1:05 pm Dollar General had nothing new last time I was in.

This whole 5-pack is a "must have" for me, I guess a collector (addict) can't win...
I forgot they made a P1800 (sic!), and I collect the Jag's. Have the dark green, and new light blue versions so far. Yeller is a must have in me book.
See what you did mate?!

Best 5-pack in years. The GT40 and P1800S are the standouts. I had to get one some months ago as well. The guy who I buy most of my stuff from is in Maine. I don't get, however, how rural Maine is better with stocking than the Southwest Virginia coalfields. I guess because it's mostly smaller stores and chains that buy less and rotate stock more often?
